3 parts baking soda to one part vinegar, should be a paste more like paint not watery. Leave on 30 min & scrub off. It did work for me. I first scrubbed it with dawn grease cutting soap then dried & used the baking soda mix. Everything came up & my stove now looks like new. I let the grates soak in the HOTTEST dawn dish soap water in the sink until water cooled enough it didn’t burn me like 30 min also. Then scrubbed & really the whole stove top now shines big time.

Barkeepers Friend, a toothbrush, a straight razor blade (with caution), soft sponge, a microfiber cloth. You have enamel under that crud. You are in luck! I used these materials to clean my eternally annoying DCS gas range deck that has a kind of brushed steel surface. Make a paste, let it sit for 15 mins or so and start with the toothbrush in small circular motions. I very gingerly used the razor in spots careful not to scratch. It has been stained for years. BKF is incredible. I cannot believe how well it works!

I have. Takes a lot of elbow grease and some sort of scraping tool such as a wide screw driver but use it gently not to scratch it but work on the built up grease. Hard n old marks such as these develop due to cooking greasy and fat based stuff on high heat. I get mine from a flat bread pan with ghee everyday. Sizzling and nonstick enamel on the outside of certain pans also play a big role here. I recently cleaned my stove top with baking soda and vinegar, didn't work really well because I was either too impatient to wait for a whole day n all or I was too anxious. But anyway, I used a metal scourer and good old lemony liquid dishwash with elbow grease and some hot water if you would. Scrubbing is the key. I still have to clean the grates though.

The problem is that this crust is almost pure carbonised oil. All cleaners attack oil so they are not going to touch this concrete. There must be something that can be used, at a guess some form of acid like a drain unblocker. Enamel is a form of galss so it should be OK but to a test drop on a clean part first. Maybe caistic soda ? If not it's back to the road drill.

I'll give it a try. An anecdotal story, I had a Magnalite Stock Pot that had some horribly charred pinto bean crust that would not come out with any non-nuclear methods. I did the peroxide/baking soda method but with perhaps a significant difference. I filled the bottom of the pot with 1/8th inch of peroxide then sprinkled the baking soda on to it. Not sure if it would have been in proportion to create the paste consistency. Here is what I think is the difference maker: I let it stand overnight (maybe 12 hours) and I worked it with a scotch bright sponge. It took it down to the shiny surface and none of the bullet-proof crust left that I could see. It's going to take a lot of peroxide paste to do our 6-burner Viking gas range...

I don't comment often, but this is such a problem, I thought I would chime in. Here is what I know from experience. 1. Bar keepers friend will work with a lot of effort, however, per the customer support staff of BKF, "if you leave it on too long, it will discolor the stainless, I have spot on my top to verify that she was correct. 2. Ammonia DOES WORK VERY WELL. I cleaned my stove last night using it. I knew it would attack the grease because friend my cleans her grates with it by putting the grate in a plastic bag with ammonia and leaving it outside overnight, it works perfectly. I was however, I was hesitant to use it inside the house, for obvious reasons, but I was desperate. I was about to replace the top with black enameled surface, expensive. What I did was pour some on the paper towels over the spots (soaked them and press them down) then poured additional on the top. and covered and sealed the area with plastic wrap, left it for about 3 hours, came back and cleaned it up with soap and water, the stove hasn't been this clean since the day it was delivered. If you are really worried about the fumes, at home depot you can purchase a respirator mask that you see painters and wood workers wear, they will blocked the fumes. I use them to spray lacquer, they work. Sorry about the red type, somehow got into this mode and can't figure out how to get out! Hope this helps you out. Of course wear gloves. Nick
