I love that his videos are always strait forward and to the point. He definitely makes videos for the "average" guitar lover. Also, he never comes across as though he is plugging any certain brand, it is a simple subjective perspective. We're lucky to have someone like The Tone King to give us honest, dependable, reviews and advice.

I have the Lemon Oil for my fretboard, I oil the rosewood fretboards about twice a year. I use the Gibson polish that works good just like any others out there. I have to get between the pickups too. To avail getting spray where you don't want it you can spray your cloth instead of directly to the guitar. We do the exact same thing TK. I can't stand a fingerprinted guitar, the oils from your hands will breakdown the strings. Great video.

peavey guitar polish and lemon oil also gets the job done too, for strings i use ghs fast fret, which really cleans the strings, giving it a nice tone and making it easier to slide your fingers across the board.

you are amazing lol Thanks for the lesson, i clean my guitar but never really had a proper tutorial like this, im going to buy those items because i definitely want to get the most use out of my strings in a longer period of time, also i love seeing my guitar shine and the strings fresh :-)

I too put the 65 on a cloth and pinch the strings. And here's something I picked up form an older guitarst years ago. Before I play the guitar I lubricate the strings & fretboard with almond oil. It's cheap and you can find it in a pharmacy.

Nice one TK, not that I didn't know how to look after my guitars but is always fun to watch how someone else does it (although my wife thinks I am a bit odd for doing so).

The noise of the string cleaning was like nails on a chalk board! Uhh. Shiver me timbers! I bought this little plastic rectangle thing with a sponge on either side. You put your cleaner on each side and close it over the strings, then run it up and down a few times. Works pretty well, and it doesn't make that horrific sound. And I rub lemon oil onto the fret board so it stays nice and crack free.

@The Tone King What do you use when maintaining your wall valve of carnage (amps). Do you periodically use can of air spray out the dust inside, and also volume tone pot contact cleaner. Stuff from radio shack.

That's refreshing Thanks TTK
@HEADBANGBALLER13 жыл бұрын
I am with you buddy! I cant stand a filthy, dusty, finger print covered guitar. But I go one step further. I start by spraying a cotton cloth with Windex. THAT is the only way to truely clean a guitar. You really just rubbed the dirt and oil around and spread it out so it can't be seen. Clean it first with a real cleaner and then use the Dunlop 65 to polish and give it a protective coating. Then it is really clean and protected.

I'm just wondering if you have to be careful not to touch the strings with the guitar body cleaner since the strings were cleaned first? Also, is it a good idea to use a toothbrush and use the guitar body cleaner to do the bridge, Frets, etc.? Thx.

Dunlop 65 String Cleaner smells horribly chemical... Unlike their Lemon Oil or the other general body cleaner. The latter actually smells like you could drink it, which is quite a contrast. But the String Cleaner works surprisingly well. Even old-ass strings that sound like rope get a little bit of life back in them.

To save $$$$ Pro guitar techs use Rubbing Alchol from a drugstore. Low percent, its only .99 cents or less. I use this method but the fretboard and I use other stuff. Old fannel shirts, is very useful when cleaning strings and body. Just make you have one for strings and other for body.

You have to watch out with what you clean your guitar with. I had a beautiful black Ibanez, I used some cheap, coarse-as-all-hell paper towel. I put so many tiny surface scratches in the thing it almost looked like an old fashioned metal engraving.
