Despite enoying Moonwalker a lot, I remember my sad reaction when I heard the Piano playing exactly the same notes when Michael walked on it 😂

A proper working piano, or even a FFVII type one, may have been expecting a little too much for an early MD game, haha

@@PigsysRetroGameDevTutorials Hahaha sure thing, but for my 13 years old brain at that time I kinda asked myself "How could that be possible if the SMS's Castle of Ilusion's got a piano playing the right notes on the Library Stage"? Oh golden times 🎶🎹🎼

Nice job! Seems to be fairly straightforward, but I could see balancing sound channels and priority getting challenging in a complicated game, especially if you want to have really fleshed out multi-channel music.

Yeah, it takes a little planning and keeping track of what sound is on what channel

I'd like to add with all due respect, Mr.Pigsy. FM channel 6 is where the sfx are played. Any sfx played will stop FM from playing on FM channel 6 for the duration of the sfx. It's good to keep that in mind when writing the music.
@PigsysRetroGameDevTutorials9 ай бұрын
In this video I was discussing the SFX. As I understand it, the first PCM channel is mapped to the 6th FM channel when playing samples in music, so should be avoided for the SFX
@jc_dogen8 ай бұрын
@@PigsysRetroGameDevTutorials all 4 PCM channels play on the 6th FM channel. The system only has 1 PCM in hardware, SGDK just handles 4 in software.

Thank you, 3 digital sound channels, that's impressive. Do you plan to make a tutorial on programming FM sound effects?

Thank you for this! As a kid, one thing I found by accident was in the sound test menu of Moonwalker. Using a turbo controller and playing the voice sounds using turbo button held in , wiggle the cartridge to crash the game and the sound effects come through super crisp and clear. Not raspy like normal. What does that? Is it possible to do without creating the game? (I have a Moonwalker video on my channel that shows this at the end.. if that doesn't make sense.)

What bit and sample rate matches up matches up best for the genesis? Mono or stereo? Does the genesis then compress the samples?
