Your video is absolutely spot-on. Your level of detail and "How-to" Advice on this subject is far more detailed than any of the other videos i've seen. I have a 615cu with 14.5.1 cr BBC in my 96 Mustang...Engine is brand new and has only been started in warm weather. Warm weather 2 pumps, and she fires off. Tried 3 pumps at 40-50 degree weather foot, may have been a little on the throttle didn’t catch and I saw "Blue flames" coming from the carburetor..."Scared the shit out of me." Lol! I think your idea of not touching the gas pedal until she fires up is the best way to start it. Your thoughts?..Definately following your Channel

That how I start my 557 big block ford. It has started in zero degree weather using that method. Give it a try

Thanks Tim...what do you think the blue flames were...Flooded maybe?

@@malanio1 I believe what happens is that there is liquid fuel laying in the intake and down at the intake valves and because the engine is cold the fuel burns really slow and the flame will travel up the valve and through the intake. Anytime Ive touch the throttle while cranking it over has caused it to backfire through the carburetor.

@@timwilliams4328Sure thing Tim! I'm just going to wait like you do until she fires up before I step on the throttle.

I tried that once, but at -40. Guess i didn't use enough pumps...or the gas was crystalized enough.

If it fired off and then died, then yes try an extra pump or two. If that doesn't seem to work then maybe look at your accelerator pump to make sure it's working correctly. Also you may want to move to a warmer climate lol

@@timwilliams4328 I took it off a bit later in time after that and found whatever was left (gas, gasline antifreeze) for some reason had turned into a slushy. Let it dry in basement overnight. Interesting powder left over. Cleaned everything (old tooth brush, overnight soaking etc) fired right up (the -40 was gone though). Accelerator pump was ok. As for warmer climate I'm in Canada. It can get down to -40 in winter sometimes.
