Thank you so much for putting all this knowledge together.

Great video, I totally agree about troop ratios. Caesar's writings and some of the other later republican authors pretty clearly that Roman armies on campaign varied wildly in size and were seriously understrength. Republican Roman armies are so challenging to model I think because of the Manipular structure, and there seems to be an obsession with "small units" for the Romans... But its insane to think that these small units are supposed to represent a maniple of 120 men. And then you get into the whole mess of whether there were actually gaps in the quincunx. I love Polybius, but sometimes you wish you had more than just him and Livy to draw from.

always found the Macedonian Successor States to be very interesting in my Roman and ancient military history courses

Great overview. And it reminds me that I have a load of Victrix Republicans sitting in a box that I need to paint. I’m sure I’ll get to them at some point. 🤦♂️😂

Thanks for the explanation! I really needed this. I like when you and Hold Diver do ancient bat reps seem like your both having fun. I really wish I would see more historical gaming locally. You hardly ever see it played or stocked at local stores. Anyhow, I have just completed Carthage and Rep Roman skirmish warbands for Clash of Spears. I put them on 25mm squares but i think I can make them work for HC and Warhammer Ancients. Victrix for the win!

Greatly helpful video and also my favourite period too! Another company thats worth a mention is Newline Designs their ranges are slightly limited but good value for money. Would you happen to know how well 1st Corps figures would mix with Victrix/Aventine? Thinking of getting some units for my Successors army from them.

Amazing video, throughly enjoyed it! Do you only ply Swordpoint or do you play other rulesets? Also do you play on a table that is bigger than 6x4 because you’re using 28mm?
@rangerminiaturesandgaming3647 Жыл бұрын
I primarily play WAB but have played SP and HC as well. I play on a 6x4 and larger tables when we need too for larger model counts.

@@rangerminiaturesandgaming3647 yeah just wondering as I’m really wanting to get 28mm but wondering if it will be difficult to have a large tactical battle if you’re doing a historical refight. Just in terms of manoeuvrability and attacking flanks etc

Good stuff. Can you comment on size of 1st Corps infantry v Victrix/ Agema ? I've got 1st Corps Cav which are a bit smaller.

I only have the new agema etruscans from the kick starter, they were sculpted and produced by footsore and are quite tall with the anatomical correct style of sculpting, they don’t really fit in with anything besides foot sores mortal god figures ( which I have about 10 of).

Is this list for Hail Caesar? I want to start to make an army as a total beginner and I don't know which wargame to use, what do you recommend for a newbie like me? Hail Caesar, SPQR, Clash of Spears or SAGA? thanks

It could work for HC, I primarily play warhammer ancient battles now but I have used this army for WAB, HC and sword point
