@@HobbyCards hey man, just in the odd chance your reply i have a question, when buying cards on COMC, does it make more sense, as an INVESTOR to buy graded cards or just EX-NM cards, say there is a jordan card for sale PSA 9 for $500 but the same card UNGRADED EX-NM for $50, what would make more sense buying? thanks
@NeoPlaysBall5 ай бұрын
@@petejames1326EX-NM every day of the week and then spend the $19 on the PSA grade, your making $550
@HobbyCards5 ай бұрын
@@petejames1326 Hey sorry for the late reply, but the answer is case by case. For your Jordan example, and for most examples, it is probably better to buy graded cards for investment, as the grade is determined by PSA and has credibility. For those raw cards, even if it is in good condition, the condition is still subjected to debate by whoever sees the card. There is no truth or credibility behind the condition besides using your eyes. So to be more on the safe side, investments would lean towards graded cards. Plus it is less likely to get damaged or dirty as you hold on to it.
@petejames13265 ай бұрын
@@HobbyCards ok thanks anyway, graded is always better when it comes to investment than i guess as its probably easier to sell as well isnt it?

I collected cards as a kid between 1990 and 1996 (pre-Kobe)… life happened, family moved a lot internationally, fast forward 26 years.. just last month, i pulled them out of storage.. and I know I have plenty of valuable cards.. all in all I I have thousands of basketball.. no clue where to begin! My entire memory of basketball cards, players, and what happened since stopped in 1996.. where do I even begin?
@HobbyCards5 ай бұрын
Well, there's no quick answer, you can go one by one in each card in your collection and ebay or google similar priced cards and slowly build up knowledge into the true value of the card. After that, you can start to sell them one by one or offer bulk deals, if selling is your priority. Or, just keep it for another 20 years and see what happens!

If you are casual about it then do it however you want. If serious, then stay away from target or walmart online sales. I’m not kidding! Every time you are tempted to get a $30 blaster, or a $50 mega box; just put that money in some sort of stash. Once your stash is large enough to get a hobby box, go buy one. You won’t regret it, and the value will be worth more than if you spent twice the money on retail boxes.

Binder is a good idea if you are collecting not too expensive cards. Any binder works that is over 1 inch thick. I'd say stay away from too many random eBay cards that are for sale, it's easy to spend too much money early on if you like every card you see.

What to buy draft pick card ? Or the team jersey card??
@asherhumphreys72732 жыл бұрын
In the “what cards exist?” Section it would have been nice to include all the companies that make the cards instead of just panini. And also how many different cards or images are printed per player by each company per year. For example, does panini make 8 different rookie cards for each player or just 1? What about the other companies? These are the 2 questions I was hoping to have answered since I’m a complete noob at this hobby, looking to buy my son and I’d first cards this year!
@HobbyCards5 ай бұрын
Yes I would need to brush up on my knowledge of every variant of cards and the number of companies that print cards, but the truth is, the companies vary year by year and the different rookie cards or inserts change every set, so the answer really is to manually read the card news blogs to stay updated on every possible card option for each new set!

Hey dude. Thanks for the videos - Im returning to card collecting after a long time (since my childhood). I've been researching and trying to catch up on things as quickly as possible. In one of the videos you showed an eBay graph of the card value over time (highs and lows) - where can I access that? This is something very interesting that I would like to know when researching cards to buy, especially as I am virtually new to it all after having been out for so long. It would help me gauge the card value although I do understand that if a player pops it can explode in value without much warning. Thanks

Thanks for watching man, for prizms there’s a bunch of stuff like tiger prizms or even like cracked ice stuff. The main ones are the base, and then the silver. Those 2 are bought and sold the most on eBay. Everything else is nice but price fluctuates based on people’s preferences.

@@AVDEEVEE there’s no strict rule to what makes cards increase in value, but it’s similar to stocks where if you hear good news, more people want to buy the card and the price goes up. So mvp, awards, championships, career high points all make a card generally go up
