i feel like no one ever talks about this either but i thought i’d mention it- i just collect the cards i like. i don’t pressure myself to collect every card or even full sets unless i really like them, and i’ve found it’s way easier on me spending wise. remember it’s your collection, you don’t have to follow any rules but your own!

Hi! I would like to add this: When I started collecting, I found it really hard to collect normal solo photocards as I am an OT7 bias and collecting all members at once is nearly impossible, so I came up with an alternative! I just collect group photo cards!! They aren't terribly priced and also make me feel like I am representing all the members. If anyone has the same issue, you should definitely consider this as I find it super fun and it makes me feel fulfilled/ happy as a collector.

I collected ot7 for k albums in a real short period (8 months) & my biggest take away for new collectors is that we are so so lucky that none of bts albums are out of print. sla sa was & before 2020 the album used to go for €400+ & first press pcs for roughly €250+. first press sla sa have a slightly larger white border & the pigmentation is darker. a lot of completionist collectors still collect these. seeing so many other group collectors struggling really hard as their fav groups albums are constantly going out of print makes me so grateful. there's no rush and it isn't a competition. I still have dreams of getting the her lenti ahhh one day

You did so good with this video! I could have used something like this when I started collecting several years ago. I agree with figuring out what you want first and not just buy everything. I spent A LOT on things that I didn't really like or need because I didn't have a clear picture of what I wanted my collection to be. Once I figured out I didn't want non photocard items (big inclusions), unless it was something I couldn't live without, I felt less overwhelmed. Same with collaboration and promotional items. My other piece of advice for new collectors is about pricing. You should not pay more than the cost of the album or DVD the card came in, especially if its still in print. You'd be better off buying the album. Also, in print items are NOT rare just because there are not a lot in circulation for sale or trade. Again, just buy the album. I'm tired of people using "rare". As example, if you see a JK LYS:Her photocard for $50 because its "rare", you are being scammed. Be smart!!

Not a single BTS album is out of print, yet they are still being priced as if they are out of print or “rare”. Rare is an overrated word in the collecting community in my opinion. Speaking of rare, I didn’t touch on DVD and Blu-ray’s because that is honestly a completely different beast of collecting that has other sets of challenges. But again, doing research and learning about the difference between dvd and Blu-ray pricing is something BTS collectors just have to learn eventually. Member pricing does suck. However as a collector who also do resell bc I buy 20+ albums to try to get OT7; truth of the matter is even though everyone says they're OT7, but I always have issues with selling hyung line (if at all). They always take the longest to sell and ppl only buy them when I lower my prices. So while I would love to sell all members the same, I always end up lowering those prices anyway. So to even break even for the money I spent, I have to raise prices on maknae bc I know for sure those will sell. Also PCs are the only way for me to get some kind of money back and it's barely a profit bc the albums I have left over with no PCs never sell even tho I'd price them for 5 bucks so I end up always giving those away for free. It's similar to DVDs as well. And some may say why I don't trade, but truth of the matter is as a long time collector, I don't like the hassle of trading especially when there are ppl who don't care to package the PCs correctly or worse scammers. Idk I only wanted to add my two cents into the discussion bc ppl give resellers so much hate for member pricing but truthfully it's about the demand. When I prices the members differently, I don't do it bc I don't value each member, it's not about that. It's about making back the money I lost. I could go on into this but I think ppl will already be triggered by this comment and not even try to understand so.... Anyway, I like your vids. 💜

I agree as a reseller of album pulls. Jin and RM are always the last to sell and sometimes it might as well be for free after lowering the price barely covers shipping supplies. What I take exception to are resellers selling a photocard for 2, 3 or 4 times what they paid for the entire album. People try to make money not just make their money back. There's a difference and that upsets me the most.

@@lucyfoxx6632 yeah I think that's how you can tell who is a fan reseller or a reseller-reseller. However, lately I feel like I've seen a lot of new collector not being able to tell the difference and would attack any sellers who aren't selling at the price they like which are 5-10 bucks (which isn't realistic to me). Like if I see a card I want but don't like the price, I would move on and wait till I find it for a better price else where. But some ppl don't do that and would be so aggressive. Like I had a friend who's gotten d- threats and it's just not that serious and uncalled for.

Thank you for your input on this topic! Resellers are definitely something I should of touched on in my video because a lot of collectors (myself included) bulk buy albums each era to collect OT7 and sell the leftovers. But selling these “leftovers” are becoming impossible like you said because most people want the maknae line. I myself still have about eight BE essential edition albums and I still can’t get rid of them. Because of this pricing members differently has become the only way to get money back from buying so many albums. So with that perspective I absolutely agree that member pricing is sometimes necessary. I’ve also seen many new collectors attacking sellers who member price and not knowing the full context of why they are priced that way on Instagram and it gets really ugly. I don’t agree with attacking anyone for member pricing. I think it’s childish and at the end of the day people can sell their photocard for however much they want. Simply moving on from the post should be good enough. It’s the sellers who sell an in print album card for $40 and $50 that really bothers me and they know it’s wrong. I also think a lot of new collectors think that everything should be $0-5 or it’s a scam or overpricing and that’s just not the case. The fact is that collecting anything will cost money and that’s why I think it’s so important to learn the value of a collection and really budget because I think that’s where a lot of arguments and frustrations stem from in the collecting community. I just donated four boxes of MOTS:7, BE limited and essential edition, and Butter albums to Goodwill because I was never going to sell them without photocards at this point. Should be able to include it with my total donations for the year at tax time.

the 1st press SLA SA pcs have a wider white border and are more cool toned than the re-release pcs. the Re-release have a thin white border and are more warm/yellow tones :) if you look for these you can tell which one is 1st or 2nd press to avoid overpaying!

Wow, I just started looking at the photocards I have sitting around and decided I wanted to organize and start collecting them. I honestly didn't even know where to start. Then all I could think about was the money sink and how long it was going to take and whether it was worth it. This video answered a lot of questions and settled a lot of anxieties for me. If I hear anyone wants to start collecting, I will be sending them to this video. Edit: The comment section is extremely helpful as well.

i started from hyyh pt 1 since that's the era where i really started to love them, i don't do lentis or yf dope since they're so expensive and i'm not in love with the cards. i would say it's easier to focus on certain members though; namjoon, seokjin, and hoseok are almost always well priced, i wait to find maknae line pcs or even some yoongi pcs for a fair price which can take a long time

I started mine by focusing on one member (Namjoon) but still keeping my album pulls. It made it so much more managble!! Such good advice!!! My next member I'm going to try to complete is Jimin.

MOTS:7 was the first album I bought and I got a random version (which is Ver 2) and I pulled Taehyung 😅 I guess I'm lucky I got him at the first try. But I'm just watching this a couple of days after I sold it for 9$ (us)

Brilliant advice another point of contention along with Member pricing new collectors should be aware of is QYOP-I would say avoid like the plague. I agree with the ot7 sets you picked as favorites(I just started doing an ot7 set-Pizza Her,Denim-Tear and Answer F) As a 2seokjimin collector I agree start with your bias/line and start slowly For Dvds if you are going to collect i only collect my ult Jin-dvd pcs are expensive. ive been an army for almost 4 years, but i started collecting my bias hobi this month im gonna collect all hobi pcs from korea & japan, brand deals, dvds, memories, etc etc.. so everything and even though his album pcs are priced nicely, the prices for hobi dvds and blurays photocards are actually insane like $50 to $190+ i am shocked that a piece of paper would cost that much in the first place

Honestly is so unfair that these sellers over price a member just bc he’s really popular. They don’t realize that we work hard to get what we want and buy at least some pcs that aren’t exaggerated. But they claim that it’s first press or bc he’s mainly the member who is loved the most. 😒

I agree everyone has different ways of collecting! I actually am still working on my ot7 pcs and I’ve advanced a lot, I think I’m halfway done and I started in the beginning of the year 😅 i know you said some people just buy any pcs they see and then they give up with their collection, but I did exactly that and it works for me:) I just have to be patient and everytime I add a new pc for a set it encourages me to finish that set, then again everyone is different, thank you for making this video for those who are beginners💝 good luck everyone on your collection!!

i'm not a collector, but it's interesting to see what is popular in the collecting community. i really like the hyyh1 square photostrip thingies because they look so unique and it's got to be one of my favourite photo concepts from bts to me. i just wish they had the hyyh logo on the back because it's so pretty. also, it's interesting to see what collecting looks like in other countries because even though there are avid collectors in my country, I've noticed it's pretty difficult for sellers to get people to buy stuff here. i'm like that too and tend to be very picky about what i buy, and generally don't suffer from fomo either. but i see that in usa and sea countries, they collect stuff as an investment, but that would not work here at all because no matter how rare the card/album is, people don't really want to spend on it. i feel bad for the goms here because of the amount of immature people or actual children that put in exorbitant claims, only to ghost the seller later. i think seeing things like that put me off trading and collecting in general.

member pricing makes me so angry like it's so unfair to the members, it's like you're saying one member is worth less than the other. for now I only collect sope and one ot7 set per album (for the love yourself and persona series), I collect some of the popular sets such as Her E and Answer F but they are too cute to pass up! as a yoongi collector I must say her O is the bane of my existence, it is SO hard to find and same with YNWA. persona is definitely the easiest to collect, for both yoongi and hobi I collected persona the fastest and for my ot7 set I think I need like 1 card (mainly bc I have been on a buying/trading hiatus recently)

I feel pretty prepped to collect OT7 for Korean and I did it the way you did. I started with my biases, jimin and joon, then I collected all of my bias line (jimin, joon, JK, and I added Tae early 2020) and I’ve just kept the Jin, yoongi, hobi cards I’ve pulled I don’t like member pricing either. I collect and sell my dupes. I sell all the members at a base price, however as certain members don’t sell and I want to get money back to buy the members I do collect I have to decrease their price. (my ults are jimin and joon, so I collect a pretty inexpensively priced member and a slightly expensively priced member) So I hope people don’t think I’m just pricing on who the member it is. Then there’s trading….people that won’t trade a certain member for another can kick rocks.

Thank you for this video, it's really helpful! I've started collecting a few months ago and my initial plan was to collect only my two biases (Yoongi and Jimin), but then I pulled that Tae Butter cream pc and I just couldn't let it go 😅 That man isn't even my bias, but some of his pcs are just too beautiful to not keep them. It was the same with his MOTS ON:E photobook clue pc, it's just TOO PERFECT. So in the end I decided I would collect Yoongi, Jimin and one more member I pulled or whose pc liked the best, I hope it won't overwhelm me. Unpopular opinion, but I really like the LY: Answer ver E pcs, all of them just look like angels and I'm in love with the Jin card I pulled. I have one question: do the album pcs prices' go down after a while or do they tend to stay the same? I've seen Butter pc are a little more expensive than other album pcs and was wondering if it's just because they're recent and in demand.

Love to see another YoonMin bias! 🥰 To answer your question: yes. Album prices absolutely will go down over time especially when a new comeback is announced. When the Butter album was released for sale the BE Essential edition cards went down in price by a lot. I think the best time to buy cards is when a new comeback starts. So if you looking for Butter cards still I would wait until the new album is released, you’ll probably have a very easy time finding what you want. Hope that helps! 💖
