One thing I’m really happy about with my SNES is that I found it nearly complete-in-box for around $170. The seller, a guy who runs a retro game store I visit regularly, said he lowered the price because it was missing a few things. All that was missing was one of two controllers and a manual. The console, cords, and a copy of Super Mario World were all in the box. On top of it all, the box was in great condition! Definitely one of my favorite parts of my collection so far.

Been really enjoying playing that game on my SNES! I remember my SEGA buddy saying, "So dumb it jumped from Part 4 to Part 10!" back in the day. You might want to do an episode on authentication. Opening is great but you also need to ensure serial numbers match on the rom to the game cartridge. For example Earthbound is SNES-MB and the rom chip should have that laser etched on top. People are now selling authentic looking games on eBay usually expensive games by flashing the game on to a cheap game that has similar chips and selling them. Sorry for long message. Here is 1up :)

I also heard about people removing the lockout tabs in the cartridge slot so they can play Super Famicom games. I personally don't want to do this because I prefer to keep my console original. But there are 4 alternatives. One is to get a Super Famicom console. Another idea is to get a SFC to SNES cartridge adapter. 2 other options are to use a game genie or game saver device. Both are region free, so you can bypass the lockout tabs. I read that some people do the same thing with N64. They use a gameshark to play Japanese games on the American console.

While the NES is my favorite system, SNES has some of my favorite games ever made. They just require you to sell an arm and a leg...and maybe a lung as well. I've seen some UN30 systems that were not 1chip so it is a gamble. In my experience all UN31 have a 1chip 01, UN320 are 1chip 02, and UN321 which is the hardest to find is 1chip 03. The quality is negligible between the three. There are devices out there that let you copy over your save file so if you need to replace the battery you can just copy it back. Very helpful for RPG's.
@RetroBirdGaming4 жыл бұрын

I have some thoughts that this video didn't cover: 1 - the European SNES looked exactly like the japanese one! I think that Japan and Europe had the best looking SNES. So if you're in north america and is fine with PAL (and that 50 Hz) it can be fun to have the european SNES but it might be hard/expensive to get the PAL versions of the games. Probably some people in Europe that prefer the north american SNES as well. And about the japanese SNES and also other japanese consoles: I often think about why it's often pretty much english in the games and not 100% japanese. 2 - SNES Classic Mini! Same 21 games on the US and european version but the old classic US design and european design. Just buy the one you prefer or which one that's easier to get or cheaper. I've looked at the list of games (21) for SNES Classic Mini and I often think about this: what games do I really miss? Do I wanna add more games if possible? The funny thing is that all great SNES games that I wanna play is in SNES Classic Mini. But that's - my - personal opinion. So my advice before going into the original hardware: look at SNES Classic Mini and check the game list! Especially if you're on low budget. But then we have the gamers that wanna have the original hardware no matter what and some of these guys also wanna have SNES Classic Mini and some don't. Also worth to mention: SNES games are also on Switch Online, New 3DS (non-New cannot play SNES), New 2DS and I think also Wii U. So that's a good Plan B or C for gamers if it feels too hopeless to get the original hardware or Classic Mini. I still love the "SNES Zelda" (A Link To The Past). Such a great game! The most Must Have game for SNES! And if you love it, then you probably wanna get a 3DS/2DS with Zelda - A Link Between Worlds that is a sequel, kind of a "great 2nd Quest".

I absolutely love the SNES and its library, especially as a huge JRPG fan, but oddly havent gotten as many games for. I plan on changing that in the coming years for sure. My tip is that if you are a big JRPG fan like me I suggest to get Ys III. It is surprisingly a pretty cheap jrpg of a pretty popular series. 3 of my most rare and expensive SNES games are Dragon Quest V, Dragon Quest VI and Final Fantasy V put out by a small retro gaming company called Timewalk Games. Did this company have any connection to Nintendo? When did these games come out? The 3 games I mentioned were released in Japan for the Super Famicom but not in the U.S. In the 1990's as far as I know. These games were originally English translated ROMs playable on an SNES emulator on a computer. This Timewalk game company put out these English translations on SNES reproduction carts with reproduction SNES labels in boxes that look like original SNES boxes. Do you have any of these Timewalk games or any others this company produced? I have a LOT of my gaming friends searching for these Timewalk games but can't find them for sale on eBay or any retro gaming store. I wonder how many games this company released and if they were only English translated RPGs that never came out originally for the system.

I only have one SNES console but a good game collection, it's still not yellow at all, just like it'd be brand new and plays like a charm, well, at least when I play it... But, there are some of my games that give me some headaches, when that happens I have to remove the game cartridge and put it in again, and start it again, depends of the games of course, it's just insert the game cartridge and start the console if it works then you're good to go, but if it's not, then remove the cartridge, put it in again and start it again, repeat until it starts... Note that not all of my games cause me some problem, the only problem I have is to starting the game, but though I'm not sure, I still have a brand new Retron 2 that I bought brand new a few years ago but it's still in the box and I've never played it before, I bought it in case of the SNES console dies on me, as an insurance... The games I have were handpicked from the old days ( the 90s ) and still remembered, the rest came along the way, some good, some bad, some I hadn't even heard about back in the 90s...

Sorry to say, but the US versions of the SNES are just SO UGLY! The European version/ Japanese Super Famicom version looks so much better. I have no idea why Nintendo America decided back then that this ugly brick is better for the US market.

I think they went with that design because on the original NES they had an issue where people would leave cans of soda on the top of the unit and it'd get liquid damage. They used this design to deter people from putting drinks on the console.

I miss the good ol’ days of gaming. Tonight I got off work and came home to try and play ps4 & 5 and well all that happened was downloading updates that are forced on me and game updates and console updates and then options and settings were not working in the game so after a couple of hours I gave up and turned them off. Old consoles from PS2 and older all you have to do is put the game in and play. Oh yeah and recently I got locked out of one of my play station accounts. It’s so annoying. You don’t have accounts for old consoles and so no stress. All you have to do with retro consoles is turn it on, put in a game and play. That’s it…. That is all. Having fun right when you turn it on.
