Thank you for this video. My sister and I have had a business for years selling ephemera. It's really hard to not get caught up in the commercialism even in the junk journaling world. We rely in books and magazines that people would otherwise throw away and sell it to other junk journalers. It's a love and our hobby. My sister is a graphic design artist. We could easily go in the digital kit direction but we chose what we love, making trash into treasure. Thank you so much for supporting that. We love your channel.

Love this!! I mix junk and some scrap supplies. I use paper packs and a trimmer, but other than that it’s free or second hand yard sales, thrift stores or I make or it’s giving 2 me. I only invest in a few things trimmer, a nice paper pad, corner punches.. also you can use old makeup eyeshadows as ink or paint. You can color your own paper with tea coffee, and food coloring, you can make ur own stamps with a sponge and plastic cookie cutters, you can make your own glue and sealer. Also dollar tree has some amazing junk for a dollar! Also search for free catalogs if you like flowers and use them. Also books I always hit the book section at goodwill very cheap and good. Learn how to use Parchment paper , u can also make ur own stickers with clear labels. Also If you haven’t used it in 6 months donate it. Sometimes having 2 much bogs creativity.. I love this lady’s approach it’s real talk. You will be surprised how much money you save and taken aback of how much you’ve spent or were on stuff u can get for free or almost free or for nearly nothing.

Great ideas! My husband doesn’t throw out any junk mail until I get a good look at it. I have a lot of security envelopes, love the designs and the windows. Now I have to use them, lol. Oh and tags too, I have some unique tags from different items. It was very interesting that you are on a quest to find the origins of a junk journal. I never liked traditional scrapbooking and avoided it. Not really sure how I became interested in junk journals. I think I started with an art journal and mixed media and it grew from there. Sometimes I like the colors of a piece of paper and take the colors and make my own piece of decorative paper. My small room that I craft in is a bit hoarders paradise. I have a very pretty basket that holds my junk ephemera it sits on a top shelf, where no one can see in it, lol. Thanks for your videos, they have given me a new perspective. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for this information. I have been doing scrapbooks since my kids were little, so about 25 years. My style is very simple, which is why I still enjoy it. Since 2015 I have been a quilter as well. I find these journal ideas very inspiring, so I started a quilting journal. Raiding the recycling bin in hubby’s office has been very helpful for materials to use. Of course I am using fabric from each quilt in the journal too, and bits of scrapbook paper. It’s a mish mosh, but it’s working so far!

I have never liked Scrapbooking, went to a demo once and said, not for me. But in the past few months I have been looking at junk journaling and ephemera and have learned that I love old paper, etc. I have not done a journal yet, too many Christmas projects to finish. There is nothing in my Etsy shop at the moment, but there soon will be as I have been hunting ephemera and now have enough to sell kits. Hopefully my journals will be for sale soon. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talent.

Thank you! I loved learning about your junk collecting approaches. Mine has been project-based with a smattering of “ooh... that would be great in something!” My collection began with broken jewelry but became intentional when I took my coffee-stained doily and put in my pocketbook after breakfast. My husband looked on in bewilderment tinged with horror and fear. I have reached the hoarder brink. Now, I feel less guilty about letting go of some stuff after hearing you say you do. Thank you! It really can become overwhelming if you have a small space. ❤️ Shirley

Thank you for addressing the elephant in the room!!! Many kudos to you also (for reading my mind). After watching many videos just learning the process, I began to realize that some channels are all about buying more and more very $$$ supplies. That went across my "recycler grain". To be fair I've learned many tricks from those teachers but gave up watching because 1/2 their program was thanking people for "happy mail." (free gifts sent to them from viewers). Not my thing. Limits the audience to those that have very deep pockets. It can also be hurtful to those that cannot hoard all that lovely store bought stuff. I get waaaay more enjoyment from using things I've saved for years from other hobbies that can be used wonderfully in a junk journal. You have my rapt attention. Thank you for your authentic insights and being a true creative.

Excellent video! Love the 3 approaches you explained. I used to work at a big scrapbooking store, ARCHIVERS. It’s been years now since those stores have closed. I am right there with you. I am recently retired after 35 years of being an elementary librarian, 13 years Girl Scout leader & trainer and have just finished emptying my parents estate (boarder line hoarders, both deceased). I have crossed the hoarded boundary and have to purge. I would like to do a yard sale but have no room to store stuff till them, no desire to online sale. I craft as I can. Advise welcome. Bri, this was a refreshing video with no sales pitch. I look forward to backtracking your channel.

I don't only use junk bc I don't understand collecting junk for junks sake. I do use stickers, washi etc... but I cant stand the "fake" ephemera (old timey tickets, fake stamps, old Victorian pictures of real people, and the big cringer.... old writings from the 1800s.... ya know, in America- what else happened then, some of the receipts have ppl on them not just eggs and milk). I just travelled to Croatia. I have real tickets, real stamps, postcards I bought, wrappers to things I actually ate and drank that I want to remember the ingredients of. I will upcycle "trash" raw material into something else as well. But I really dont understand either gluing fake ephemera OR just random garbage of things that aren't special or memorable in my journal. I guess Im true memory keeping. Im scrapbooking without the scrapbook products.
