I collect water from roof but I need this for over by my gardens!! And I'm going to get a portable washer so I can use the rain to do my laundry. Beat the city water bill some!!

The collection parts (tarp and bucket) don't need to be sterile, they just need to be clean. Rainwater, collected on clean materials is still the cleanest water on the planet. People commonly drink water from wells. It isn't sterilized. Neither is the water from city water systems. The water from those systems are often near septic tanks, and gardens and farms fertilized with chemicals and stuff like Roundup weed killer. Don't obsess about water from the sky -- it's cleaner than all of the other sources!

Doesn't the evaporation in the water cycle filter rain water? In theory, if you can get it cleanly from the sky it is the same as distilled water. (PLEASE do correct me if I'm wrong, I have yet to do any testing or confirm this)

Hey Monika, great question. This is where wilderness & urban survival skills really come into play and being able to find other clean water sources. Maybe I'll do a video about this in the future. For wilderness (and urban), there are certain plants that have high water contents you can harvest from and ways to purify water from natural water sources. Certain plants can also tell you of a shallow water table which you can sometimes dig down to and tap.

If you're going to go to the trouble of filtering and purifying your water collected this way, what is the point?!?! You may as well just collect it straight off the roof!!
@marisold48953 жыл бұрын
Depending on the type of roof, it's not recommended. But there's also chemicals, insect & bird droppings. The rainwater coming off a roof is much dirtier than a clean piece of plastic.
