I know of a few guys on KZbin and Instagram charging hundreds of dollars for this same content about color grading underwater footage. Thanks for that. You got my support.

Perfect video. As someone who has been both diving and in media production for over 30 years - this is the only video you need. Thank you. The rest of on KZbin the videos can be thrown away.

Merci Seb! Took away some useful tips! One thing, I believe I saw you were using an a7sii. I stopped using slog2 underwater because I was struggling to bring back the colors and the lack of light was introducing too much noise. Back to cine 4 and it works pretty well despite losing some dynamic range, curious to have your thoughts :)
@MaldavarFilms5 жыл бұрын
Hey! Funny that you bring that up because I was shooting cine 4 most of the time and then tried with S-Log once, ended up really liking the dynamic range available. It's a bit more complicated to color grade maybe at first, but in the end more room to change the colors. As for the noise, I agree, I use the denoiser from magic bullet once i'm done editing. It fixes this issue. So bottom line, I like both Cine 4 and S-log and dont really mind which one i'm using in the end. The most important still remain the visibility underwater. No picture profile will be as important as this (and you cant control it...)

What a fantastic tutorial! At the moment I'm using davinci resolve but most of your tips could be used in that program... Or I should switch to premier 😅

I believe Resolve is even more complete! But yes, the concepts explained here can be applied with any color grading software :-)

Wow, great to see what color grading can do! At this point is there even a need for a red filter then? If I were to use one, would it make it easier to do the color grading later? When would you suggest to use one? Right now, I'm planning on using a gopro 8 black. Thanks!

What picture profile are you using?
@DavidLeeUnderWater5 жыл бұрын
This was very helpful. Couple questions regarding source footage. If you shoot raw video, do you still white balance? Are you personally using those Keldan lights with the blue filters? Just learned about those. Seems quite nice but very spendy.
@MaldavarFilms4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Sorrt I missed your comment, better late than never :-) I shoot with a flat picture profile using the underwater auto white balance, however I dont think it changes that much compare to the classic auto white balance. I am not using Keldan lights yet and very seldom use red filter. Only if I dive below 5 meters and know that I will not shoot anything above 5m for the whole duration of the shoot.

im new to using my sony a6400 for underwater videos. what would be the best colour profile to use so that when i colour grade the footage will look the best ? thanks !
@MaldavarFilms4 жыл бұрын
I would suggest you to try the following setting (you can custom your picture profile PP5 for instance): Black +3 / Color S-Gamut / CINE 2

@@bobbyburns8801 no problem, it's either auto WB or UW Auto WB. But better to set a fixed Kelvin first to be honest.
