Morning Aaron... you are the first person to explain this procedure in a way that I understand it. I'm surprised colorist don't use this software first when coloring line art to save time. Maybe Clip Studio will pick up on this in future upgrades. Thanks for another informative video.

As far as I know, it's a brand new method so I'm sure it will become one of the standards.

Yep, really well explained, that clearly makes a difference. I'm not a newbie, but absorbing a lot of info a day (programming, graphics tech, etc), this makes the difference that keeps one listening the tut instead of saving my poor neurons to the essential tasks of the day... It's easy, fast to digest and instantly assimilate for whenever I open Krita again. So is important at every level. And more importantly, you can really see what is his teaching method, so you can get any of his courses with that advantage in mind... I don't know the man, just dumping from my brain what thought through the video... BTW, I have CSP (and still, I use Krita, too), it has some tricks for fast coloring, too, but I believe is quite different, I have not yet put that in practice (mainly doing line art and alternating with its "oils" brush), though. Although from what I can remember, while very good approaches, not as really well implemented and being so useful and fast like this.... I think it has a closing-gaps brush, and a way to select layers contours fast without switching layers, but that needs to have created those "reference" layers created first. And is not a huge advantage, as you can do it in Photoshop without either changing from current layer by hitting ctrl + click on the layer thumbnail, you'd get that selection in PS without changing from current layer. Maybe the brush for auto closing gaps is what comes near to solve the probs addressed by the Krita technique, but it does not even come close to this speed and usefulness as explained in this video. Unless I'm ignoring some magic CSP feature in my recently purchased CSP pro (50 bucks), which could be. Anyhow, even if it had sth equally good (doubt it), you get Krita for free ! Not 50 bucks... ;) (the CSP Ex version, BTW, only useful if you do many comic pages and want a sort of indesign in it for that... also if wanna import CMYK files not flattened, but keeping the layers (you can do layers in CMYK with Pro, is only the import what varies), plus some extra 3D functions which I don't need, and some stuff else. While the $ difference is big, around 170$ gap.). I wouldn't be able to say which I prefer, tho. I guess what am doing is using one for stuff , other for other matters. But even for same type of task, at times. The technique explained in the video...there's a comic kind of niche profession among the many in that world: pencilers, inkers, colorists, letterers, writers, etc (all earning really little, BTW, except the very famous ones), which indeed is atomizing a task from colorists. Both full task colorists and the actual "flatters" will have a joy in this feature. If I'm not wrong, a flatter charges really little, and often works by subcontract for a well positioned colorist, it does just this very exact task (taking a lot more time than in the video) for many pages. They get paid, and the colorist will do the less mechanical, more artistic touches.

I bounce between different programs as needed. I use Clip Studio for layout and design work, as well as for inking, as I really like their brush engines. I may also go as far as flatting, though I am not a comic book artist. I will paint in Clip but usually finish off in Photoshop as I think Photoshop can pretty much do everything you can imagine. I've started using Krita but need to learn a lot more before I am comfortable. Aaron has really explained this one in a way that I can understand it and will definitely give it a try. Aaron has a way of explaining things without complicating them. There are a ton of features in Clip Studio, you just have to dig in and use it and you will find them.

This is such a huge time saver. I have been debating in my mind for ages as to whether or not I want to make the move away from Gimp, I watched quite a few videos from Krita users and really liked the way it blends but this here has probably sealed the deal.

Amazing. For some reason I didn't know this trick in Krita... ! This saves so many work hours. Specially as it even creates the layers per each color.... Not only for comic pages. I'm working a lot lately in colored line-art.

Dude, thank you so much!!! I can't believe I didn't know such a tool existed. Of course, it doesn't make coloring perfect, people who want to make realistic pieces will still have to take care of the shading and stuff themselves, but this saves soooo much time. I can't thank you enough!

I have looked everywhere for a tutorial for using the colorize mask editing tool that actually is straightforward like this! All the other videos go off on tangential information before they give the basics. Thank you! Thumbs up and subscribed! I do sometimes run into "wash mode only" issues on older projects (still in 4.7) and wonder what that's about.
