I've been on a color pooling kick for a while and I was inspired by this video so I bought a bunch of mainstay yarn in the same color and started my own project. I was successful pooling... those first 3 rows are sooooo tricky to get it right!! You have the best color pooling videos on youtube, by far. I want to thank you. I also wanted to say for anyone else that might be trying to make this,....be warned using mainstay yarn. I don't know if I got a bad batch, (i bought 8 skeins!) don't get me wrong, it looks beautiful worked up, my color way is different, (mine is teal, lt blue, teal,- dk blue, black, dk blue) i get 3 stiches per color but i have to use a 4mm hook and my stiches are very small. Heres the thing, and I wish i had known, it is the crappiest yarn I've ever worked with in my life! It's SOOOOO stiff and SOOOOOOOO scratchy and dry feeling. It feels more like a rug than a blanket. I'm wondering if anyone knows how this yarn washes, if it softens after a few washes, if it's possible to soak in fabric softener... Sorry for the rant. It's such a shame because it is "affordable and available" and such a pretty color way, but my goodness, I can't stress enough, worst yarn ever.

Oh no! I hate that it’s so hard on your hands. I haven’t had any issues at all with it. You’re right. It’s a great yarn to get started with so it’s a shame that it has the potential to be rough in some people’s hands. Thank you for your kind words towards my tutorials. I am so happy that they have been helpful. 💜😁

Best color pooling videos I've seen on KZbin! I've done 1 afghan using techniques from other videos & it was so hard to get it right. It came out super cool, but it was definitely a struggle for me. You explained things in a way that I can understand better than the other videos I've seen. I actually figured out that using a smaller hook in places helped on my own. This is the 2nd video I've seen from you. The 1st one was the one where you explained how to choose the yarn & that was super helpful since I thought you could only use yarns that were specifically made for pooling. I will definitely be doing another argyle project in the near future. The frogging doesn't bother me, I end up doing that on every project anyway. Lol Thank you. Subscribed & smashed the bell.

Your other videos are what got me started with color pooling. This is the exact yarn I started with 2 days ago. I also had trouble getting the yarn to work properly to start with so it wouldn’t stack. I saw another video that gave the tip of adding or subtracting a stitch on row one. Adding didn’t work for me so I frogged and subtracted a stitch and it’s working up beautifully. Thank you for the content and idea of color pooling, I wouldn’t have known what to do with the variegated yarn that I have.

Wow this is superhelpful - I studied your other videos and tried different yarns before using Red Heart Stillwater Pooling. It is beautiful colorway, I have good consistency but....NO MAGIC!! Watching this, you showed me how to fix my first problem - stacking - but my second that the colors were not lined up at all, I finally found my problem - on the first row, I repeated the first color in the colorway and then turned...and did not realize. I kept on, hoping that the magic was just late - so now I have 10 rows for a baby blanket to rip out and start totally again. Keep your fingers crossed for me!!!Thank you for introducing me to this fun crochet practice - you explain very well.

Ruthieabe - here's a tip - treat the colours as if they are just two colours. Usually a bunch of blendy colours with 2-4 stitches and one contrast colour with more stitches. If you treat all the blendy colours as if they are one colour it will be simpler. You can CAN do it! Don't give up! ❤❤

This is so cool because I have a butt-load o' this exact yarn! My project is now this! Why can't red heart, the very well-known budget yarn makers, produce a yarn as consistently soft as this stuff always is and in a consistency of yarn thickness as this? But there's is notoriously thick and thin, rough, and has breaks that have been noted in the factory. I have had as many as four breaks in one skein of yarn - I hate those knots, and have returned a spooled out skein in the plastic shopping bag when I hit the fourth knot. God knows how many more there were and he ain't tellin'. P.S. butt load is an actual shipping term; it's not bad - I checked.

You will be able to make a beautiful blanket with your butt-load (which is in fact a scientific measurement that I use all the time at work). And I agree. With Red Heart’s range and resources, I WISH they could get all of their beautiful yarn to be softer. 😁💜

Hello. I am really enjoying watching these color pooling videos. I am totally new to this, and one thing I do not grasp is to make a blanket do you make your original chained as wide as you want your blanket to be and then start looking at the color pooling because I noticed a few videos they end up with a chain and a row and then they's turn back and part of the Rose left hanging. I have short term memory loss and I'm trying to get this to click in my head. Thank you for your patience. I will keep watching and hope you can reply.....spoke too soon. You just answered me. You would make the base chain as wide as you want the blanket but during the row 1, as you work your way back across the chain, you would stop where the full color way originally began, is this correct?.

Yep! I think you’ve got it. It’s really easy to take out the left over chains once you turn around. 😁💜

I'm loving these videos. Could you confirm that I understand color pooling right? The stich determines the pattern and how the colors will pool, but the size of the pattern and how many stitches of each color is determined by the length of each color in the yarn. Is that all correct?

I would use at least 6 for a throw. These are less than $3 a skein so it is a very affordable yarn to make bigger blankets with. They also have a solid blue color that would make a great border for this. Your granddaughter will love it! 😁💜

Can you start color pooling crochet with a foundation chain instead of just chaining?
@ItsTimeforYarn
@ItsTimeforYarn Жыл бұрын
I have never tried it so I can’t say that it can’t be done, however, the initial chain helps set up the rows so that you can work your diagonal. I’m not sure that a foundation chain will show where the colors change and allow you to see where to set up your colors and where to turn around.

I'm going to keep trying with my Blue Multi yarn but my color lengths are different. I've tried with the h, I and j hooks, k is to big. The lightest blue is only good for 2 stitches and the blue blue's length keeps changing from 3 1/2 stitches to 2. I gave up last night but I will keep trying.
@ItsTimeforYarn
@ItsTimeforYarn Жыл бұрын
That can be frustrating but try not to give up. You may have to change your tension from color to color as you go. Since this yarn isn’t specifically designed for color pooling, there can be a slight variation in the colors as you go. You can do it! 😁💜

QUESTION. That end with the 2 stitches of color instead of the three, eventually that 2 stitches will move towards the center of the row. Does that throw off your pattern later? or how do you fix it?

The section with the half double will travel as the pattern develops but as long as you continue to do only 2 stitches in that particular part, the pattern will remain consistent and give you no trouble. 😁💜

How do you find enough yarn in the same dye lot to complete a project? Your blankets look fairly large, and I can usually only find 2 or 3 skeins in the same dye lot of any kind of yarn. That's not nearly enough for a full-sized blanket.

I'm curious, what makes you say that the teal at the beginning is a partial color sequence, and the sequence isn't teal-dark-light-dark-teal-blue, as that would also repeat? Is the 1-2-1-3-4-3 pattern important/relevant for this? Is it so that the argyle pattern aligns at the bottom in a specific way and wouldn't start slightly offset?
@seriokan2971
@seriokan2971 9 ай бұрын
Also, a thing I noticed about the moss stitch vs the granny stitch: The Moss stitch has the same number of stitches for each row. The granny stitch actually has one cluster less on every even row than every odd row. Therefore the moss stitch has an even amount of stitches for two rows, while the granny stitch has an odd amount of stitches in two rows. In order to get the argyle pattern, you want the full color repetition to end exactly one step offset from the end of the second row. So for the Granny stitch, that requires an even amount of clusters for the two rows (which is easy by going through the full colorway twice) But for the Moss stitch you need an odd number of stitches when you end the repetition, which... doesn't always work out. In fact, it only works out consistently, if a full colorway has an odd number of total stitches and you go through the color way an odd number of times before reaching the end. But dropping a stitch at the end of the sequence (or adding an extra one) does mitigate that, effectively creating the needed odd stitch number.
@ItsTimeforYarn
@ItsTimeforYarn 8 ай бұрын
I call it a partial sequence because until I look more closely at the yarn, I don't know whether or not the very first color is the complete length or if it has been cut short at the factory when they started the new skein.

I'm trying this with the pink multi color version of the same yarn. I've noticed that some of my strips are shorter than others. For example, I can get 3 stitches in one color but only two I'm the next, then 4 in the next. The strips of pink are half of the darker purple. The light purple are only 1/4 of the length of the darker purple. It's just not working for me. 😢
