As a convert to (Protestant) Christianity from Socialism I found this an interesting but frustrating interview. I certainly would have given the author a slightly tougher time. It seemed very parochial. I mean, you discuss Marx without mentioning the Russian revolution once?!? Also, technical and scientific advances inevitably give a gloss to progressive thinking. Interesting that countries that came out of Communism whether in Eastern Europe or parts of the Arab World (Iraq, Syria, Egypt) often became less ‘woke’ ( for a time at least) in response. The recent booing of Hungarian school kids of England football players ‘taking the knee’ is a case in point.
@29sentz

@@Yawnyaman Egyptians had the pyramids (though they didn't build them). King's chamber was at the 1/3 level (of overall pyramid height), where the most intense cosmic energy matriculates, in order to enter deep transcendental states in order to communicate better with "The Gods" (aka the spirit world). Whoever utilized these structures, was a million times more woke than our current degenerate, petty, and bickering human race.

All this woke mess was one factor that drove me back to the faith and the church last year. It pulls the rug of reality out from under your fest. I was looking at this societal desaster for years, not knowing how to act against it, or how I could hold on to the Truth. It was not the only factor, there were some very personal desasters too, but it was a factor. Especially once I saw the potential antidote to this awful poison in the form of the church, it made coming home a lot easier. I see the attacks on the church, but the guarding of the teaching alone is just so... beautiful! And hopeful! So, this awful ideology brought me home. And I'm grateful for that... it may well be, without this pressure I would not have seen the necessity to rearrange my worldview.

@Macavity I don't think they can really define woke, they just heap everything they hate on the new catch word.
@howard5992
@howard5992 2 жыл бұрын
@Macavity - Her argument seems to be that a humanist approach to social justice eclipses the role of the Church. Second, there is this idea that "social justice " is being advanced by folks who also question the validity of religion itself. This is seen in her attempts to equate the "social justice movement" with Marxism and Communism. The cream on the cake are her ideas about how we need to preserve traditionalism in other areas. It's a little sad in my view that she crates a lot of straw man arguments to demonize the social justice movement as a subversive threat.
@howard5992
@howard5992 2 жыл бұрын
@Macavity to add to what I wrote earlier, there can be a rejection of "Progressive-ism" from people who generally oppose governmental programs. The reasons for this are broad - in some cases it is anti-regulation (which itself may be due to a pro-business attitude) or it is anti-tax or it is anti separation of state and church. These attitudes can apply to "social safety net' programs or environmentalism or climate change activism. There is a push toward inactivity. Some people on the Right wrap this up under the banner of personal freedoms.

@@tony1685 Catholicism is trues. 1 Tim 3:15: “but if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou ought to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” God made a church which compiled the Bible. @@tony1685 you must be a 7th day Adventist I assume. You need to study a whole lot more. Read the Scriptures and realize you were lied to. A simple reading of Acts 20, 7 will show you an example of how it changed with the coming of Christ. The first day of the week is Sunday. ACTS 20, 7 On the first day of the week* when we gathered to break bread, Paul spoke to them because he was going to leave on the next day, and he kept on speaking until midnight.

@@tony1685 you obviously never really knew your Catholic faith. It is extremely common to hear people say ," after X amount of years being Catholic, or I used to be Catholic.". Etc. I too almost left the Church that Christ founded 2,000 years ago to become a protestant. Yet I had 2 miracles that led me to stay. Ellen G. White in 1863 founded your church. Before I begin to explain their errors of self interpretation of Scripture it is important to understand the basic level of suspicion of following man made churches. That suspicion alone should've sent red flags. To know and understand that basic fact is what made me stop and listen to reason.
@USMC98

@@tony1685 Now, what is the reason we debate, read , have or look for faith? Because we seek Truth. If it truly is Truth you seek then I will show you. As I was shown. With Scripture., not my opinions or a pastors perspective. If it is Truth you seek then be careful of man made religions. The year is 2022 4 years ago I too could've created a church and you may has wel been a disciple of my false teachings. I began with ACTS 20, 7. But let's begin with why do YOU follow OT rules? Who told you to? Answer the question, then I'll explain.

Considering that our solar system is already about half-way between the birth and death of the sun in the sky, shouldn't God should be having a middle-aged crisis and wondering if he can accomplish everything that he set out to do? Do Christians ever wonder how their marvelous God could could create Heaven and earth in only 7 days, and then not be able to set it straight for 5 billion years? Or would you be a bad boy to ask such a thing? Liberals often lecture that you must be respectful of people, to hope to persuade them or change them. But perhaps pretended respect only enables Christians and validates them, when the neurons of their brains are hopelessly wired beyond all reach, anyway. If being constantly respectful, how would they ever, for once in their lives, hear the truth about themselves? That being that they are wind-up toys, gibberish-spouting freaks, zombie cult members, living in an elaborate world of pure bullshit and make-believe. Deserving of respect no more than gypsy fortune tellers who take themselves very seriously.

Quiet protestant here, respectful of my catholic cousins. One house, many roofs. A picture that might help explain how utterly destructive all this post modern Frankfurt school thinking is, is to imagine two battleships steaming forward in parallel, but then they both turn their turrets towards each other and start shelling. The Frankfurt school would explain that this will only make things better. Destroy each other, tear down the idea of fatherhood so that we may be your new father, etc. The Good Book says it well: your enemy comes only to kill, steal, and destroy. We now know the 'how'.

The single most important message of all prophets to their people was to worship God alone and none else and to follow His teachings. All of them, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Ishmael, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, Jesus, Muhammad and others, in addition to those we do not know - invited people to worship God and shun false gods. Moses declared:"Hear, O Israel The Lord our God is one Lord."(Deuteronomy 6:4). This was repeated 1500years later by Jesus, when he said: "The first of all the commandments is, ‘Hear, O Israel; the Lord our God is one Lord.’(Mark 12:29) So, the greatest commandment, the most important belief according to Jesus, is that God is one. If Jesus was God he would have said, ‘I am God, worship me.’ Instead, he merely repeated a verse from the Old Testament confirming that God is One. This aligns with the mission of Jesus, as taught in Islam, where Jesus was sent to the Children of Israel to confirm the message of the past Prophets - to believe in the One True God. most Christians nowadays believe in trinity.. Jesus said i came not to destroy the commandments of moses i came just to fulfill. Muslims reject the Christian belief that God is a Trinity, not only because the Quran rejects it, but also because if this was God’s true nature, He would have clearly revealed it to Abraham, Noah, Jesus and all of the other prophets. ISLAM is the submission in worship to Allah Alone and it is the essence of all the Messages sent to all nations before us. Allah is All-Just and All-Wise. He does not intend confusion for His Creation. The religion accepted to Him is the one chosen by Him. Its essence must be One, because He is One. It is free from geographical, racist, and status oriented concepts. It is Perfect and it is the complete way of life. All these qualities are chosen by Allah in His Only Religion: Islam. Its details are in in the Qur’an, read it and come with an open heart because none can expose better than the World of Allah. The Qur’an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad. He did not author it. He was unlettered. Its translation is available in many languages in bookstores or in an Islamic Center close to you. Take the time to read it and come/call the Islamic Center, or speak to someone who re-verted and submitted to Allah Alone. Watch some discussions between Christians and Muslims👇 (One Message Foundation) Thank you for reading the comment🌸 .........................................................................................

From an article in Wikipedia: The old meaning of the word defines woke as simply the “past simple of wake”, as in to wake up, or awake. In a modern sense, the meaning of the word has changed a lot, and in 2017, the new meaning of the word woke was officially added to the dictionary. Described by Merriam-Webster as “chiefly US slang”, the dictionary defines the word as: “Aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)." Woke nowadays refers to being aware or well informed in a political or cultural sense, especially regarding issues surrounding marginalized communities - it describes someone who has “woken up” to issues of social injustice. Merriam-Webster says: “Stay woke became a watch word in parts of the Black community for those who were self-aware, questioning the dominant paradigm and striving for something better.” The earliest usage of woke in this politically aware sense can be traced back to a 1962 New York Times Magazine article written by William Melvin Kelley, titled If You’re Woke You Dig It. The article described the appropriation of African-American Vernacular English (AAVE) by white beatniks. Sorry, Noelle, but you are full of it.

You are right. Sadly, Noelle has fallen for the fake news that Fox News and others are trying to spread that woke = progressive, but none of the online dictionaries I've found back the definition Fox News is reporting. Noelle should be a better researcher before she tries to write a book about a word she doesn't understand.

Hegel's mistake was not his dialectic, but his (very Enlightenment) belief that it was a perfect rationalist process of smoothing out contradictions, whereas in reality it's a messy process of trial and error, and hammering out compromise. We really don't ever see an "end to history". The Cold War didn't result in some inevitable triumph of communism; far from it. The thesis (capitalism) met with the antithesis (communism) and ended in the synthesis (the market-economic welfare state). There are no communist countries in the world today. China and Russia use market economics. There are no purely capitalist countries anymore either; in every hemisphere, government takes on some degree of social spending. Saying you're a "communist" these days is quaint; like saying you're a monarchist. Anyway, Fukuyama wasn't completely offbase in championing liberty-minded democracy. Liberty-minded Democracy is, in fact, the new thesis of the new Cold War. Its antithesis is springing up around the world -- the Authoritarian Bureaucracy. China has one. Russia has one. There is disturbing evidence that America has one, we certainly have enough sympathizers with that point of view. The old Cold War answered the question, "What is the best way to use the industrial economy to generate and distribute wealth?" The new Cold War will answer the question, "What is the best way to harness expertise in the service of a free people?" There are probably answers floating around already. After all, the Welfare State was invented by Otto von Bismarck (a monarchist, of all things) based on ideas from Alfred Krupp (definitely a capitalist), both of whom were already adults by the time Marx wrote in 1848. The answer I happen to like to the question "What powers should government bureaucrats have?" is a classic formulation to curb tyrannical excesses: "To encourage, to be consulted, and to warn". It will be interesting to see how this one turns out.

"Freedom does not mean that right to do whatever we please, but rather to do as we ought. The right to do whatever we please reduces freedom to a physical power and forgets that freedom is a moral power.” - Fulton J. Sheen Freedom without morality leads to totalitarianism. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says, “The Church has rejected the totalitarian and atheistic ideologies associated in modern times with ‘communism’ or ‘socialism’” (2425). This does not mean, however, that Catholics can embrace a kinder, “Christian” socialism in its place. Pope Pius XI famously declared, “Religious socialism, Christian socialism, are contradictory terms; no one can be at the same time a good Catholic and a true socialist” (Quadragesimo Anno, 120).
