I will never understand why people are such haters. If you don't like her videos, why are you watching them? Go find another channel or video you do like and leave those of us alone who do appreciate these types of videos. I really like her methods of training. And honestly the language is totally unnecessary as well. Just go elsewhere and make yourself happy...

Love Victoria Stilwell! While she is a well-educated instructor and k9 behaviouralist with a wise heart, Cesar Millan...well he grew up on the countryside in Mexico and got his self-claimed "education" among the stray dogs and got the nickname "The Dog Whisperer" since he could (or did he...?) handle "impossible dogs" - by using prong collars, shock collars, taking on an alfa male behaviour, cornering the dogs. That man has not a wise heart.

Peaceful voice I would say this woman has. And yes way more informative

@@louicepaulsen-kangasmaa1377 i disagree with you, it's his own way of teaching. he never used shock collars he uses e collars which doesnt hurt the dogs. Shes been training dogs for 10+, hes been around dogs since he was a child so he knows how to train dogs really fast.

Great message, stimulation as a need cannot be stressed enough. A couple of things that I would like to say explicitly: Even the teeniest dogs evolved from an animal that hunts over 20-50 miles each day; daily exercise should be regarded as a need for all dogs. A yard is not enough. You wouldn't stay inside all the time if you had a huge house, right? Stimulation is more than walking and running, it's also the way that tree smells after 5 other dogs have visited it. If you cannot dedicate an hour each day to exercising a dog, you should not have one. It's selfish to expect him to satisfy your needs (companionship, in-tact slippers, undisturbed trash bins) if you do not have time to run his devil out each day. Good luck with your monsters. Now go outside and play.

I take my dog for two walks a day, one in the afternoon & one once it gets dark. The day walk I let her off leash in the woods to sniff around & have fun. I take her to dog park too sometimes. Saying that- she's still bored! The mealtime thing seems mean, I would hate that if I'm hungry. You think I should try it though? Also when it's relaxing time & I'm just on my phone or watching stuff I feel bad for her she has nothing too watch ya know?

My older girl lives in a dorm with me and is pretty lazy and sleeps when I'm not home. I take her for 4-5 more walks outside which she likes, but her arthritis doesn't allow her to walk for longer stretches so we break it up with the potty breaks. I think I'm more worried about her boredom than she is, so I'm happy I found this video and learned some tips! Thanks Victoria!

To everyone that cannot take their dogs out for 1 hour walks. I personally think she is right on that btw Heres another mental stimulation method. Get a Kong that you can stuff with treats/food/etc. Tightly stuff it so it will be difficult for your dog to work with. It will keep your dogs working hard. Also go a step further. Put low fat peanut butter inside it with the treats . Freeze it. Dog owners who have anxious dogs, over stimulated dogs, reactive dogs. You must understand, dogs were not made to be in a house all fucking day. They will develop psychological problems due to understimulated minds. Try to replicate hunting, foraging, basically anything that a dog would do in the wild.

Getting a bike might actually be a good idea for me if I get that service dog (I want a golden retriever for that). If I just get an ESA, I'll be looking for a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel end I understand a walk will be sufficient for them.

I bring my shiba for 2-3 short walks a day. He loves to play with toys so I buy him plenty of stimulating toys and bones. I used to bring him to the dog park but he’s been attacked there and I feel so bad because he LOVED it there. I feel like he needs to run more and I don’t know what to do..
@Lisa-ih7fk5 жыл бұрын
I know this is an older comment but you should try roller blading or skating with your Shiba. You'll need to buy a harness specifically designed for pulling (search dog sled harness) and find a large empty car park or similar space to initial train your dog the commands for pull, stop, left and right but once he gets it he can run to his hearts content without you needing to keep up with his pace. If your worried he's too small to pull you could also do this using a bike and you can cycle fast enough so he's not really pulling at all

I own a pitbull, I Take him out for walks daily, but he's starting to have issues. One wierd issue is he is deathly afraid of my toaster oven. He freaks out, drools, shakes aggressively. Took him to a vet and not much could be done. He's not destructive so medication is not needed. Still I wondered on what could be the root cause of it. He used to sleep in the kitchen. Now he won't go anyway near it because of the toaster oven. While I knew most of this information, and doing intensive research on dog psychology, it all began to click. Bored dogs...... My pit created a phobia due to lack of stimulation. She hit the nail on the head. The excitement, overreaction when he is on dog walks,the overreaction of when people come inside our home. Why didn't I see this before? Fuck P. S. I think the hour walk is definantly fucking needed. Depending on breed, that is.

@Digijedi5699 жыл бұрын
+Seventh Universe Turning your dogs meals into puzzles isn't an involved activity, taking it a step further like hide and seek basically it's the same thing, just instead of one bowl and one meal, you can place food puzzles around your house for your dog to hunt for, again, not much of an involved task at all.
@highfive60959 жыл бұрын
+Seventh Universe Had a similar problem with my two working dogs -- I found that taking care of their needs before starting my daily responsibilities did the trick. Recipe: 1. Wake up early 2. 1 to 1.5 hours of running (fetch, biking, roller blades) 3. Fill their bellies They play like crazy, and then sleep like bricks. A tired dog is a good dog. Best of luck to you.
@wowzande6 жыл бұрын
I'm computer science major. I know what you mean by a bored dog. .. Stick to kongs that you can stuff. Go a step further and stuff kongs, fill with peanut butter, freeze. So it will be even harder yet rewarding for a dog. Try to make activities close to what Wild dogs do. Forage, hunt, stuff like that. I wish my dog can just fucking watch TV or something.
