@@DoubtMeTech but I do have a question I saw a video on how you can damage your preamp by plugging it directly into the audio interface is this true or is there a way to not have it break.
@DoubtMeTech4 жыл бұрын
The audio interface is a mic preamp. The compressor is not. Going from mic pre to compressor to audio interface won't be an issue. Going from mic pre into XLR directly to the audio interface can be an issue because the mic preamp turns the signal from mic into line level. The only way to go from mic preamp to audio interface is if you go with a 1/4 line level jack and make sure you select line level into the interface. With this method in this video, you won't have any issues

@fatfro14 жыл бұрын
Well that was clearly explained. This is the first video I have seen that mentions the fact that if you are using a condenser microphone and you want to use outboard gear you need to run through an outboard mic pre first. Seems pretty basic but can be overlooked if let's say you just wanted to use a compressor. I've seen some videos where they say you can use an XLR to XLR cable to go out of your mic pre and in to your audio interface, but you mentioned TRS. Why shouldn't an XLR be used? Thanks for the video.

Ain’t the compressor job is to make sure it doesn’t clip?

You are connecting a compressor to the microphone, not to the audio interface ;) That would be a different setup

The mic goes to the compressor, the compressor to the audio interface. The mic is going to the compressor via the mic pre.

Not if you have a mic that needs power

@@DoubtMeTech power for mic looks different, this is just cheap preamp, and preamp you got on your interface. Buy tube mic with power and then comp. With too many preamps is not good way. Anyway you must compressing sound straight from mic, why to compressing output from preamp, you got limiter there, and sound from preamp is also limited by gain already. On guitar you put compresor behind preamp too :-)

Bad tutorial. You say "plug output cable from pre to interface" Do you think there is only one place to connect a cable to the interface? Why would you assume that we all know exactly which port to plug that cable into? You should learn how to teach before you try teaching others.

When I say that, I show a diagram with text that explains it needs to be plugged into a 1/4 line level input on your interface. As this is a video and not an audio podcast, there are visuals along with my verbal instructions. Also, this has successfully helped over 40,000 ppl, so my instructions must not be too bad. I hope you got it set up correctly, if not, please watch this tutorial again and make sure to look at the visuals. Happy recording 🙏🙏
