Does the phone USB socket have enough power to power an external drive of 1 TB / 2TB? My external drive tries to power up, stuttere, tries again.
@imgulhassan2 ай бұрын
That's the main issue why external HDD doesn't connect to phone. A hack is required to overcome it by using a external HDD cable which has two usb outs. One should be inserted in phone and other in power source like power bank or charger

I got to the point to paste, and I could not figure out how to paste. Maybe that's because the ext drive is not registered on my phone? Do you have suggestions for me please?

I have been connecting 2TB NVMEs to my S20 for years, no problem. Just tried 4TB NVMEs and no dice. Initially used a USB C enclosure with and without OTG, no dice and then tried a USB A enclosure with an OTG, no dice. Noticed in your video you managed to get a 4TB spinning drive connected. So power is not the issue. Obviously there isn't a drive size limit of 2TB like I feared, perhaps it is how much data it can access. My drives are full well above 2TB. Maybe that's it. Gonna dump a drive a load just a few files. If that works, may try 2 partitions.

Update if anyone experiences a similar issue. In the end I have to hook the drive up to my S20 using a hub with external power and all works peachy. I still think I am missing something as I can hook up a 5tb spinning drive to my S20 no issues, but a 4TB NVME requires power? Doesn't make sense. I think my NVME may be a cheap Chinese version therefore more power is required.

@@highoctanesynx7950 got it to work perfectly fine. it was just some fuckery with VLC file explorer that did it, i didn't like the standard file exporer as it was Google-integrated. all you need to do for your phone to regognise and be able to read/write the files on it is paste all of the standard Android system folders on it, or just write them yourself. plug the SSD into your PC and create folders with the following names: ".android_secure" "Alarms" "Android" "Audiobooks" "DCIM" "Documents" "Download" "Movies" "Music" "Notifications" "Pictures" "Podcasts" "Ringtones" if you do that, your phone should be able to read/wite the drive, just plug it in with a good quality USB C cable, wait for the phone to "check" it, and it should pop up in the notification bar within a minute, if it doesn't unplug it and try again, if it still doesn't, shit's fucked mate. note: my phone uses Android 11
