in some default frequencies you need to config RX tone and TX tone on the uv5r to be able to connect to the 888s, that solves the problem when you have signal but no audio on the 888s

You need a amateur radio license to operate the radio on darn near every frequency it's capable of transmitting on plus some are not allowed to be used by anyone at all depending on country you're in. Also the no license required freqs its capable of transmitting on isn't permitted to transmit on due to a while bunch of reasons

Ik I'm 4 years late, but I use it for the same thing. I hope u didnt let the other guy scare you lol. Basically put your SQL on a higher number (around 7) if you and your hunting partner are close (within around 400 meters) then u should be good. Then with a higher SQL the more farther away frequencies will become drowned out and not heard at all. Hoped this helped

Off course you could just program the 16 standard PMR446 channels into the UV-5R of which the frequencies are readily available on the internet and save them in slots 1-16. It's hardly rocket science.

+AA1PR indeed but more watts does not always mean more range. Bigger factors like terrain and height are important. Hell height is probably the biggest factor, I've seen insane range with a height advantage.
