You will have to go into raspberry pi config in the SSH to enable remote vnc. by using this command sudo raspi-config i do it all the time. once in there you have to find it. Sense i use a Raspberry pi 3B it is in the interface area. Not sure for other pi boards.

Thanks Saravanan for this great tutorials. I guess the only trick was to add ssh file to SD card. You can even add it using explorer but make sure you remove any extension. This is the solution to connection refused. I also used IP address instead of host name

Good tutorial. Everything is OK for me when connecting Raspberry PI to the router. Because the Ethernet interface in my laptop is not working, I use USB to Ethernet connection. But it does not work when connecting the Raspberry PI.

A few comments: - Perhaps you can put a text overlay on the video that explains how to set up the ssh file via the GUI, since some of us would prefer to control remotely, but DO have the rPi connected to an HDMI monitor. It will save some unnecessary steps. - For some reason, I show several Raspberry Pis when I do the scan, but only the one that shows the manufacturer name works. when I expand the other, it just shows an FTP folder (I"m not sure what that means) I wish KZbin had a "tip jar" tied to videos, as I would definitely pitch a few dollars in, just to say THANK YOU!

Dear Sir, Following your tutorial I had successfully used the laptop as the monitor for my raspberry pi 4 . However, of late when I am trying to do the same after connecting to the MobaXterm it is saying Connection refused. The raspberry pi is booting has the power LED on and on connecting the LAN to USB on my laptop and after disconnecting the wi-fi using the Advanced IP scanner it is showing the IP is alive and is pinging successfully. Could you say what could be the issue here

When given the opportunity to initially login to either the network ip of the RPI or to use the name of the network device, which is raspberrypi.mshome.net, per the video, then use the long raspberrypi.mshome.net option. It is possible that a different ip address is assigned when you reinsert the SD card and power up again. At least this is what happened to me. Another note, I was unable to get beyond the command startlxde. The RPI reported Command Not Found. At this time I am simply taking some other steps, although I might return here later. I liked the video. Also, I am using this video on a RPI 4 Model B, sitting here at my kitchen table. Also, I installed Raspbian Buster Lite, and maybe this version does not directly support the startlxde command. I did learn a lot from this video. Thanks to Saravanan AL.

Great job. Works with wifi too. I'd rather not use wifi so that I don't have to log onto someones network to make my setup work (simulated PdP11). But switching from CLI to GUI does not work as shown using either ether net cable or wifi. The server appears to start (CLI prompt goes away and a ctrl Z results in a message that the server stopped) but the display does not change to GUI. Neither startx nor startlxde work. Does the GUI require the use of VNC?

@@lahiruudara3356 i found the IP assigned to RPi is from different network from the Ethernet used in laptop. This is why we cannot find using the ipScanner. I don't know how to get the RPi to assign the same IP from the laptop Ethernet.

If you want to connect to a Pi wirelessly, you would have to set up the Pi as an access point for a network. The network can be an ad-hoc connection only to the Pi, or it can be your home network which is connected to the Internet. You can also do a similar version of the internet sharing shown in the video, but you would need another Wi-Fi card/dongle connected to your laptop, and share your laptop's internet through that connection.

I had the same issue, but managed to solve it. I think the problem in the end was that my ssh file without extension didn't work. When I checked by putting the SD cart back in my laptop, it was never removed. To fix it, I connected my raspberry pi to the TV with a HDMI cable. (This means that you both have to have a TV with this input and a HDMI cable, the HDMI input in you laptop won't work since it is an output, thats also the reason why you need to do all these complicated steps) However, if you have a modern TV with a console, you'll probably have both. Once connected, I installed the NOOBS software, and went to settings, configurations, interface and then manually turned ssh on. (You don't even need to connect a keyboard to the raspberry pi for this, you can do everything with just a mouse, which might make stuff easier, since you might not have a keyboard since you have a laptop). After this, you can continue the video, but just don't use the ssh file. This worked for me, hope it will work for you as well :)
