@@daniblt3273 yeah that's pretty much it, straightforward but tedious. I would start with restoring your original seed phrase in MetaMask, then add your Ledger account to that. This will make transferring between the 2 much easier, I show this in the main Ledger guide's MetaMask section (linked in the description) if you want to see what that looks like

I was trying to connect a hardware wallet with metamask already installed and my address loaded in -- the check box was greyed out and filled in and wouldn't let me connect. Very clear video ! Before trying myself I guess if I wanted to store bep tokens on the BnB network, when connecting the ledger I would choose navigate to the BnB network on the physical ledger and then click connect ledger on the screen and it would let me tick the boxes of BnB accounts right ?

Its weird but you actually still use the ETH app to connect with MetaMask, and then switch the MetaMask network to BNB

Not all defi apps have direct integration to Ledger. However this is becoming less of an issue, and many things you do now might not require MetaMask now!

Hey Mike, just seeing this now KZbin didn't give me a notification. No those would be different accounts. Not sure what BakerySwap is but you should be careful with these. XRP is not proof-of-stake so you can't really stake it, only lend it, which is fairly risky

You're welcome I'm glad it was helpful! And yes you can still stake your ETH, it acts just like a normal wallet in that sense. Disconnecting it doesn't change anything. Your crypto is stored on the blockchain, not on the device itself - only the keys are

Hi, does this work with Edge as well or just Chrome? My Metamask extension is already setup in Edge but I'm afraid to set it up in Chrome because its asking for my seed phrase in order to install Metamask. Is this normal? Thanks! Yeah for some reason MetaMask requires that you start with a regular hot wallet first. Should be the same process for both browsers. You don't need one since you don't have to use it, but that's just for setup. If you do have a hot wallet seed phrase (NOT Ledger) you can enter it there, but otherwise just click thru it and don't use that address. When you connect your Ledger, you should see the same addresses as what you see in Ledger Live. Hope this helps!

Hmm thats odd, have you created those accounts in Ledger Live? Create 1 or 2 and see if they're the same as the ones that show in MM. If that doesn't work you can try using the Ledger Live option in the Advanced Settings that I showed

Thank you Jafar and great question! So first off MetaMask can store multiple accounts, so you can have both the original and the Ledger on it. When you connect the Ledger to MetaMask, you will still be using its own seed phrase which you will never have to enter on MetaMask. Hope that makes sense!

Hey Paul, thanks I'm glad it was helpful! For BSC, yes you do the same thing plus 1 additional step. You need to hook you MetaMask up to that network, and most dapps like Pancakeswap will do that for you

Those are all your addresses! The Ledger actually pre-generates 100ish for you (you can add more), but most people only need 2-3 tops. And no you just do this process once, then configure MetaMask for each blockchain you want to use and it will use the same address you linked. I show that process in my Polygon guide if you're interested

You got it! If you already have a MetaMask wallet you don't need to create a new one. If you go back to step where we create a new wallet from a fresh install of MetaMask, just click the "recover" option instead and enter your old seed phrase (NOT the Ledger's)

But I can't sell or I loose a pecantage. They use snap shots of the wallets to know the amounts holding. If I did it this way my would need to tranfer my holding to new ledger address but can't do that as I'll loose air drop. Is there a way to set it up and keep existing wallet address?

Unfortunately no since that would defeat the purpose of a hardware wallet. You could just wait and transfer it over once you get the airdrop

Instead of sending the individual tokens in my MM wallet to the ledger, they mentioned that you can import the recovery seed phase of the MM wallet into the ledger, then wipe the seed phrase from the MM Wallet in the Chrome browser so that the seed phrase will not exist in the PC which is now secured in the ledger. For future defi activities, you create a totally new MM wallet and then connect with the ledger wallet for the interaction. Appreciate your confirmation on this method. Thanks

The only place your seed phrase should ever go is on the Ledger device to truly be safe. While it's more tedious, the other way is the only safe way

Yup that's totally okay to have your previous wallet on MetaMask, I also did this with my setup too. Just make sure you link your Ledger accounts and transfer your coins over

This confusing because you only mentioned connecting the wallet via Ethereum. What about coins you hold in other networks on your MetaMask such as BUSD on smartchain or Matic on Polygon network? Do you still connect via Ethereum since that's the main network for MetaMask or select the corresponding network?

You can connect MetaMask to other ETH compatible networks like Polygon and BSC so you can use it with those networks/tokens as well! But the app you use for Ledger + MetaMask is the ETH one (even tho you're using Polygon/BSC/etc). Pretty much any app you use on those networks will automatically configure MetaMask for it, but I also create a Polygon network tutorial that walks you thru it

Hey Matt, I followed your instructions. You said not to worry about the seed phrase that was there. I forgot my password and had to reset it with my meta mask seed phrase. Unfortunately didn’t save the one connected to my ledger.. did I lose everything?

Nope if you reconnect it the way I showed (and how you originally did it) everything will come back. You might need to add your tokens but they are still there

Hey Adam thanks for posting this helpful video. I have a question relating to "blind signing" using the ledger wallet with mining pools etc. Does this function need to be enabled for it to work in the scenario described above without the funds in the wallet being compromised?

You're very welcome! I'm glad it was informative. It depends on the mining pool, the ones I've mined in only require an address to send earnings to, and receiving does not required any authorization

Yeah great question! I briefly mentioned it in the video but the MetaMask mobile app does not support any hardware wallets. I know this is a highly requested feature so they are probably working on it! In the meantime you'll have to use the browser extension

Is there no other way to connect the mobile MM to Ledger? I have to transfer my funds to the Ledger address for them to be safe? Hey Tero you're welcome I'm glad it was helpful! So basically you have the right idea, the funds need to be on the Ledger address to be considered safe. Ledger does not support MetaMask mobile only the Keystone does - I'll be putting out a video shortly about that. What you can do is install the extension using the link in this video, recover it to your MM mobile seed phrase, connect it to the Ledger like I showed in the video, then transfer all your funds between the accounts

@@paulholmes8450 the bluetooth feature is mostly for Ledger Live but other mobile wallets use it too (Keplr, Pera, Yoroi, etc.). I believe MM is in development but we don't have a date for it yet

From my understanding I do everything correctly, but when Metamask ask me to select an account, I can't find mine in any of the three paths. Any reason for that? Hey Philippe, you're very welcome! Sometimes the derivation paths don't align between MetaMask and Ledger Live. Usually when you created the Ledger wallet a while ago. Maybe try using the Ledger Live connection instead of WebHID and see if that works

Yes you can! If you already have a seed phrase from MetaMask you can just use the restore option instead of creating a new wallet like I showed. That will make transferring assets to the Ledger account a little easier

@@InvestorSuccessHub so you have a lot of MM seed phrases and you're trying to consolidate all of them onto the Ledger? Best way would be to recover one, connect to Ledger, transfer everything over, uninstall and reinstall the extension to wipe it, and repeat for the rest of your seed phrases

Kind of yes, MetaMask works with Ethereum and any EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) compatible chains like Polygon, BSC, Avalanche, etc.

Yes exactly! You would need to setup your Ledger, link it to your MetaMask like in the video, and transfer everything over from your original address to the new one, which will cost gas each time. Its tedious for sure, but well worth the peace of mind and security

Hey Adam, question on the ledger nano x specifically. If you initially set it up through the metamask browser extension, is there ultimately a way to synch the ledger wallet ID to the mobile app? I set mine up in 2021 using your guide and its been great for me, but now I'm trying to verify an NFT profile pic on twitter and it doesn't look like I can connect my wallet through the browser version to do this. The Twitter feature also only seems to be IOS compatible at the moment, but wasn't 100% sure.

Hey Barrett, glad to hear my guides have been helping you! You can’t use a previously setup MetaMask account on your Ledger (without compromising it). It’s a completely different seed phrase and set of addresses. I’ve never tried the Twitter thing but I also heard that it was iOS only. Unfortunately you can’t use Ledger with MetaMask mobile yet. If this is the case you you have to keep it on your original account or transfer it to the Ledger address for safe keeping and wait until that functionality is released

You can just transfer them to the address and import the token, but make sure its on the correct network!

Awesome glad you found it! Glad that it helped you hit the ground running. To answer your question - yup that's because the main token for BSC is BNB so thats the only thing that will show up with a fiat value in MetaMask. BETH is just a token representing wrapped ETH on BSC. Totally normal, nothing to worry about

Yes that's exactly what that means, sounds like you need to go thru the steps where it says "connect hardware wallet"

That's unfortunate, I always recommend double checking your network and sending a small test transaction first. I assume you used your ETH address, so if that's the case you're in luck! You'll need to configure MM to KCC here: www.kcc.io/ and click start now. Then you can use the bridge to get it onto ETH: www.kcc.io/bridge/transfer. Hope this helps!

I have been using ledger nano s to connect my metamask wallet and storing various chain assets (i.e. polygon, BSC, avax etc.) on metamask. however as i can c that nano s is discontinued therefore if anything happens to my nano s then how can i get access to those assets...can you please explain on this? thanks and keep it up

You're very welcome! If your S stops working you can buy a working hardware wallet like the S+ or Keystone and recover your seed phrase onto it. Its that simple! You could also do that now now to have as a backup, I currently have my X as my main, and an S, a Keystone, and a Trezor as backup

@@mohammadrahman1397 you can transfer all of your assets from those hot wallets onto the Ledger (on 1 address or as many as you want), and hook it up to MetaMask like I showed so you can use it in DeFi. Hope that helps

Yeah you can ignore that! I touched on it very briefly in the video, but as long as you don't store anything on that seed phrase (only on your Ledger) you wont need it
