1. When I wash my hands I grab soap first then add a little bit of water to my hands, turn off the faucet and scrub my hands together before finally rinsing. 2. I turn the shower water off when I scrub my body. What else could I do to conserve water? How can I buy water while reducing my plastic consumption and save money?

@coffeeinthemorning low flow is a good thing. Fairly certain that no one is trying to take your dishwasher away from you. The purpose of this video is to sell you detergent. Sure there are climate extremists out there, but there are people who do not address the fact our life on earth is in trouble and we need to make moves in order to stop this.

Another tip is while you're waiting for the water to warm up before a shower collect the clean cold water in a bucket and use it to water your garden/plants or to even flush the toilet.

Being in a country like India, the practices they adopt seem almost obvious with reusing greywater where we have been doing that for some time now. We rarely use dishwashers. Btw, this is not to boast but I do feel that a country like US needs to take tips from semi-arid countries and stop reinventing the wheel.

Sometimes automatic faucets waste more water than they save when they're activated when someone walks by one...and you could utilize the ocean to put out fires, conserving the freshwater for showers and filtering to a potable, again, water run off can be used for watering lawns, reclaimed water should never be drunk

The sad thing is that solutions typically aren't sought until AFTER something bad happens. It wouldn't surprise me that it might take a full year or decade of extreme water shortages before anything "is done", by which it will very likely be far too late. If change is to happen, it'll have to happen with you and me. After all, awareness of a problem is the first step towards fixing it.

Habits are hard to break even good ones. My normal habits: Never let water run down the drain while 'warming' it up for a shower. Catch it in a bucket/pretzel container. You can use that water for plants/garden or even filling up toilet tank. My uncle Chuck taught us this 60 years ago: Use two phases for shower. First turn around and get wet. Then TURN OFF water and then use soap on all your body. Third phase. Turn water back on and rinse. Then turn off for good. If you have a slow leaking faucet collect the drips into a plastic glass.

Clean water is just not important or a necessity where there is a problem of water but throughout the world, people who don't get water or who get water in abundance should know that clean water can easily turn into a luxury item if they waste it. Though people can still afford luxury but still the purification of water requires a lot of other resources which are again needed to be conserved so water needs to be saved wherever you live. Use different ways to conserve water. Use bucket instead of that shower. You really are helping people and the environment.

If you care about water conservation and still eat meat, you need to reevaluate yourself.
@louandlilly
@louandlilly 4 жыл бұрын
That seems like a slightly narrow view that lacks taking everything into account. Caring about water conservation is about “caring about water” in itself, it’s slightly selfish in a way to ensure we always have water. However caring about vegetarianism or not is far less selfish and not nearly as straight forward as it appears

Animal agriculture is the reason we are already running out of water, closing the tap when doing the dishes (sure it matters) is a tiny fraction of how much billions of animals are drinking to be slaughtered the next day... and the cycle goes on... look it up!
@hotwheelsearl
@hotwheelsearl 4 жыл бұрын
Giulio D'Amore that is very true. However, it’s a hard sell to tell people to suddenly stop eating meat. It’s just not realistic, even if it would be nice. There have been pushes to market insects as a delicacy to replace animal meat, but the west is generally pretty resistant to that

If the term water conservation means available clean drinking water, then the industries which consume huge amounts of clean water while contributing large amounts of contamination back into the water supply need to change. While things like water saving shower heads and scraping plates before rinsing before they go into a dishwasher and using water reduction in consumption appliances, washing machines are good practices, if it's just us at the household level trying to be mindful, it's still only part of the whole picture.

irrigation+rainfall = evaporation + transpiration + runoff + leaching Which one of these processes do Farmers really have control over during the growing season? If you have the ability to irrigate your sandy soils and water is cheap and plentiful, then you are fortunate and have some control on the left side of the equation. If you do not have irrigation, you must look at the factors on the right side of the equation to see what can be controlled or minimized to benefit your crop. Evaporation from the soil surface can be reduced with mulch or leaving crop residue on the soil surface. Transpiration is a function of the plant leaf surface area and the weather. Runoff is or should be minimal in sandy textured soils with high percolation rates. This leaves the leaching of water out of the root zone as the #1 controllable loss of moisture to your crop. Interrupting the downward movement of moisture in your soil by installing a "smart" barrier can greatly reduce the leaching of water and nutrients. SWRT subsurface membranes detain/retain up to 90% of irrigation or rainfall in the root zone for crop use by disrupting the gravitational movement of water in the soil while still allowing excess water to percolate and do not create anaerobic soil conditions.

I had such high hopes with this video NG and you let me down again... I was surprised you mentioned nothing about buying used instead of new and eating less meat and dairy. At the end I see that it's sponsored by the industry giant whose products we should be actually boycotting. BIG dislike from me

@coffeeinthemorning I'm not sure if you're trolling or not, but I'll reply anyway, as it seems like that could've been a question you posted. This has EVERYTHING to do with water conservation, but they missed out on one of the biggest ways to reduce your water usage. Please do some research on it. I'm not pushing anything on all the humans, I just said that I'm disappionted that an establishment like NG is ommitting somthing important like that, and is furthermore being sponsored by a pharmaceutical company. I hope I'm now more clear about what I said?

@coffeeinthemorning I'm not boycotting any medicine. (except potential Covid-19 vaccine) I said I don't want to buy products from big pharmaceutical companies. I try not to buy anything that is made from a big company. I go to local chains and small stores.

We could also save a lot of water just by going plant based eating, as the animal agriculture industry takes up 1/3 of all drinkable water on this planet.

Wrong! Vegans waste water too. Just don't raise animals in drought areas.

@@babecat2000 83% of the US agriculture is from animal agriculture and it's not that different for the rest of the western world. A plant based lifestyle takes up 1/15 of the land that an omnivorous lifestyle would. We could reclaim and re-wild 75% of all the land that has been cut down by animal agriculture which is the main driver for deforestation and species extinction.

@@christianwilliams1136 Wrong ! Your diet doesn't help at all A lot of forest is cut down to grow plants also a lot of areas that are cold can't have a growing season for it. Vegans are more likely to have vitamin defecencey. Quit pushing a flawed diet.

@@babecat2000 What is mostly planted in the US and Canada is soy, corn and alfalfa. And those crops are mainly for livestock, not for people and that accounts for 83% of all agriculture specially in the US.

coffeeinthemorning Yeah. It’s crazy. And people never wanted it, not in 1964 when the immigration act was signed. Not in 1994 when it was close to being changed, and not today. We are full. 200 million was a good stopping point. The US fought a very expensive war AND landing on the moon and we didn’t even have 200 million people. We don’t need a huge population to be strong. And if anything our increasing population is weakening us and causing ecological damage.
