Hi Sam Thanks for stopping by. It did take a couple of minutes ( I edited the video ) to drill the hole. I bought it to help me put in about 2,000 feet of farm fencing. That is over 200 poles and being 70+ years old that's a lot of digging. lol Thanks again.... Leo

At 5:17 you're working man! I didn't laugh. Work shirts are for that exact reason. I have to watch the next video. As a kid in the 80's I loved the idea of free satellite TV channels, but the dishes were 6' to 12' big and made of black mesh or fiberglass. We were SOL as we lived in an apartment building. Even though it was impossible for us I subscribed to a satellite television news magazine to read up on new 80's tech. I really forgot the name of. It had tons of ads in the back pages for systems. That is a cool machine to dig holes! It took me about 30 minutes to dig one hole to do what you did in less than 3.

What ever that buzz beeping is in the background… ITS F’ing awesome!!! It MAKES the entire video, adds that authentic “off the grid , spam can bunker , hoping to be abducted “ feel to the whole thing. Coupled with the vintage like filming ?? It’s seriously seriously no joke cool! Haha just got to a point where the screen is actually bouncing due to some nuance of the palm held video camera

Hello sir. I like your videos. If you can get into more detail on the install and actually pointing the dish it would be great. Just some general pointers. Any information is appreciated. Maybe when you set one of the dishes up in the sat farm, you can film the process from start to finish ( tools and techniques) that would be really cool. Thank for sharing your video. ( if you can't reply to this comment something is wrong on my end. no worries.

Must be a pretty arid climate to have a good half foot of dirt going back into the hole where the post was set. Down in the gulf coast it's a good practice to get the concrete above grade so that the moisture doesn't corrode the metal. It also does wonders for a wooden fence post as well. The most common cause of picket fence failure is the post rotting out at the base. You finish the concrete so that the water doesn't sit around the post and it will last a long time.
@K1ZEK7 жыл бұрын
Yes. I have used all types. The most important. thing is to measure were the focial point is before removing the feed horn or LNB that came on the dish. The FTA. LNB must be located at that same focial point.

Hi K1ZEK I have a dish that Dish Network left to me some years back when I unsubscribed but they took the feed horn. My question to you is rather than measuring the focal point can I just use a level or laser to aim to the center of the dish when mounting free-to-air feet horn
@K1ZEK2 жыл бұрын
@@thomasfinchio1362 You would need to know the distance and the angle from the top surface of the factory LNB arm first , then the distance from the factory LNB face.This put the NEW LNB exactly at the focal point of that dish. Now you can get this information from a dish that is in use by someone else. Just make sure it is exactly the same model. I hope this helped. Leo.

Direct TV and DishNetwork dishes are a bit small for good Ku band reception. They will pick up very strong signals though. For serious use a 1.2 meter Ku band dish is more adequate. Old Primestar dishes are great and work well.

@K1ZEK6 жыл бұрын
Hello; The Fortec Star product line is and has been used and supplied by broadcasters of Satellite TV programing. It is very popular with FTA satellite hobbyist also. If it is mounted to a pole with a horizon to horizon motor, my guess is it is used for FTA hobby type reception. If it is mounted with a fixed bracket it is probably being used for a dedicated service. If it is a friendly neighborhood you could knock on there door and tell them of your interest in FTA satellite and ask them how they like there dish. Then you could find out what it is used for, or maybe get shot. lol Ha Thanks for stopping by , hope I helped you. Leo

K1ZEK so it’s not a subscription? Just a company that makes satellite dishes? And what does KU Band mean? And C Band. And you can use a satellite dish to get free tv? If so how many channels and what channels. Any channels you can’t get for fee with a antenna and you have to pay for?
@K1ZEK6 жыл бұрын
Fortec is a brand name, of dishes and satellite TV receivers. You will have to ask them if it is being used for subscription TV or FTA reception. The RF spectrum divided into letter designations for different frequencies. The L band is 1-2 GHz the C band is 4-8 GHz and the Ku band is 12-18 GHz. and so on. note: these are approximant numbers. There are a lot of FREE TV channels booth with over the air DTV home antennas and FTA satellite TV dishes. Search the internet and you will find websites for booth FTA satellites and DTV over the air services showing what services are available at your location.

Very interesting, I have a question: Why did you have to remove the electronics, etc. from that dish? It was all set to receive satalite TV the way it was, maybe I asked a dumb question but as I said I know nothing about satalite TV...LOL I never heard of pouring dry cement in a hole and adding water after, did I miss something, did you mix the cement first before pouring it in the hole? Leo, I am full of DUMB questions...LOL
@K1ZEK8 жыл бұрын
+old64goat The electronics (LNBs) are the wrong type for the FTA satellites that we watch. And yes I could not believe that they use a dry quick mix and add water after we put in in the ground, but it works fast. The Dish TV and Direct TV guys do it this way so they can get in and out in a couple of hours and no cleanup.I don't know how long it takes to really cure but they seam to stay put. Thanks for the questions Very Best ....Leo
@old64goat8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Leo, that is news to me about that cement.
@limpdickit8 жыл бұрын
+old64goat you can even dump the dry mix in the hole and it will eventually set up from the rain and moisture in the air as long as it is undisturbed. ranchers do it that way on fence posts.

Leo, how do Dish Network, Directv and Bell LNBs differ from the ones used for FTA? Is that a "Single satellite TV dish LNB bracket" that you used?
@K1ZEK8 жыл бұрын
Hello, Some domestic LNBs have circular polarization and some are vertical and or horizontally switchabel. I am not up to speed as to what domestic DTV companies are using. I do know they are using many different switching logics, voltages and frequency schemas. So I myself find it simpler to use less complicated LABs. Hope this helps 73 Leo
@K1ZEK8 жыл бұрын
Hi again, you can use multiple LIBs on most dishes.I like to use separate dishes as you can lose gain on outboard LABs. When using a recycled DTV dish for FTA that be slightly damaged and may be a little low on gain and have a distorted focial point location. 73 Leo
@WA4OSH8 жыл бұрын
You are correct. A search of Amazon answered my question. It looks like Dish Network, Directv and Bell all use circular polarization. And, the FTA satellites use horizontal and vertical polarization.
@K1ZEK8 жыл бұрын
The answer is a motorized dish. I use one to search around the satellite belt. It is currently mounted on the same pole below a fixed dish.

@filitalian7 жыл бұрын
Forgive me, not very knowledgeable on LNBs. So this Ku can replace the one I just took off on my direct tv dish (the very same one on your vid), for FTA broadcasts, without buying a new antenna?
@K1ZEK7 жыл бұрын
Hello. Yes. The dish is the reflector part of the antenna, it's like your ear it catches the waves and sends them to your eardrum. The dish reflects the satellite RF waves to the LNB for amplification and conversion to a lower frequency; then it is sent into the house via a coaxial cable. There it is again converted and a channel is chosen by a FTA receiver to be watched on a TV set. Thus you need a FTA satellite receiver in the house as part of a FTA satellite system. Please note: Satellite FTA is not the same as local TV digital over the air FTA. thanks for your questions hope I helped. very best ....Leo

Hello Sheryl, Thanks for the Question. FTA stands for "Free To Air" transmissions, in this case via Satellites. It is like SWL "Short Wave Listening" via shortwave radios. There are many communications being sent around the world from satellite fleet trucks to TV stations and Teleports, if these are not encrypted they may be found via a FTA satellite system. There are also many TV programs that are sent via satellites intended to be received by the public for FREE. I and many others in this hobby (FTA) do not engage in trying to decode "cable" TV channels; and there satellites are located next to each other. Sorry I sometime get carried away explaining stull lol. Now as far as measuring the "dish" is done many ways. Dish physical measurements are done related to the mathematical equations being used to calculate things such as gain and focal length. Sorry I don't know a easy answer. Again thanks for the sensible questions 73 Leo k1zek

Doorguru I know I’m as dumb as a rock but the focal length is measured to the LNB I think he said 14 inches but the LNB is 4 inch above (on top of ) the bar he has not taken into consideration once he removes the LNB ( +4 inches ) the focal changes to maybe 19 or 20 inches out on the bar

@@philb5 1:49 He stated 18.5 inches. I'm no rocket scientist either, but it appears that he measured and mounted the replacement LNB to the same location/dimensions as the one he took off. I don't understand why you think the height of the LNB, which he measured but gave no value, will throw the focal point off 4 inches.

Why ? there is nothing to watch on FTA.
@K1ZEK8 жыл бұрын
Well it is like "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" There is a ton of "stuff" to watch that is not encrypted. I enjoy news feeds (back hauls ) I'm not to much on sports but there is quite a bit of live feeds. I enjoy foreign TV though I don't understand most of what they are saying. lol Check out the following satellites Galaxy = G .. G3, G17, G19, G16, SES2, SES3, and Hispasat4/5 @40deg W. There is everything from The AP to local TV affiliates feeding news to National Teleports for world distribution. Many thanks for your interest, hope I answered your questions.

What is it with every one on FTA via satellite, that no one, but no one, so far, goes over the equipment you need. It's like you all assume we already know the equipment and just want to see how it works, lol. WTF.
@K1ZEK6 жыл бұрын
I think your right! I can't remember any recent FTA receiver stuff videos. Most guys find out a lot of info on sites like Ricks satellite or poke around FTA retailers web sites. There are a lot of FTA equipment videos from South America, Inda and other countries from the Continent of Africa. I will make a few videos on my receivers something like a 101 of FTA. Most of us are old C band installers so we grew up with this stuff. FTA is not very popular in the USA as most people get News and Sports on the internet. Thanks for the Q. Look for some videos when the weather gets warmer and I get to fell better. Good Buy for now. Leo

So you aren't converting the existing equipment. You are replacing parts. I guess there is no way to CONVERT your existing dish to FTA without REPLACING hardware. So this should be titled "How to Replace Existing Dish with FTA Parts?"

I haven't got a clue as to what you just did...Your details are so sparse. And please tell me that's not an underground electric service box that you blindly drilled a hole next to.
@K1ZEK7 жыл бұрын
NO Tom, That is not a underground electric box, it is part of my satellite dish PVC piping for the LNB cabling as seen in my other videos. All the utilities and underground infrastructures are photographed and mapped before covering and I have made some videos showing such. I have more common sense then to "blindly" drill the hole. It's fine that you didn't get anything from the video as I am not "teaching" but just "sharing" what I am doing. I expect those that have "common sense" and a some "knowledge of telecommunications" to be watching my videos and would get some "food for thought" from them. Sorry the video was undoubtedly beyond your comprehension and out of your realm, as you said you got no clue.

Hello Jerry, Thanks for stopping by. I'm sorry that you do not understand the use of FTA satellite TV as a hobby. Most if not all FTA satellite users watch TV feeds or specialized programing that is not on any retail cable or internet program supplier. You can not find a live satellite news feed from a TV station's field truck or chopper or a weather reporter on location. These feeds or back halls, are feed to satellite portals and other satellite centers. Most FTA satellite hobbyist are not out to steal domestic TV that can be purchased over the internet or hard wired utilities such as cable companies or DTV satellite services. I hope this clears it up for you and anyone reading these comments or looking at my videos. Again Many Thanks ....Leo
