Works perfectly... Excellent instructions. Only difficult part was removing the T15 torx screws from case. They have security pin so normal torx T15 wrench will not work easily... You tube using flat head screw driver to remove torx screws with security pin... Simple thereafter. I used the legs snipped off the resistors after mounting on PCB to extend existing legs on capacitor as it's too short and thick with its standard snap-in connectors.

Hello, sorry but could you tell me if the charger lasted until today or how long it was?
@skittleseer14 жыл бұрын
The capacitor is used to filter out ripple voltage from a bridge rectifier (converts the incoming AC voltage to DC voltage), if anyone is curious. The reason why the capacitor needs to be rated for 400 volts or greater is because the DC voltage is way too high. Consider that your country uses AC voltage ranging from 220vac to 250vac. Remember, that is the RMS voltage. Multiply the RMS voltage by the square root of 2 (1.414). Once the AC voltage is rectified, your DC voltage will be 311-353.5 volts. Now, put that voltage through an electrolytic capacitor rated for 200 volts and...pop!
@anthonyvolkman23383 жыл бұрын
The grey line marks the negative side of the cap, resistors are not voltage polarity sensitive components. It doesn't matter which load of the resistor goes to the positive or negative due to them literally being a resistive wire.

well mate you are lucky the capacitor didn't blow up on you, never connect 120 Volts equipment to 220 , especially switch mode power supplies they will cause damage. the capacitor was rated for 200V max and you used on a 230 VAC above the cap range , not safe there is not polarity for the resistors , what you basically did was a voltage divider Vout= Vs X R2 / (R1+R2) , you replaced 2 jumpers with 0.33 ohms resistor per the above formula 220X0.33 = 72.6 , 0.33+0.33= 0.66 Ohms 72.6 / 0.66=110 Volts
@ivanbg51673 жыл бұрын
Would the voltage divider be considered safe in this set up?
@legionlonge66773 жыл бұрын
@@ivanbg5167 it is safe i have mine rigged that way too, just make sure the Cap is above the voltage rated .

Hello, Since the video is now some month old, is it still working and did you checked the voltage on the battery connector pins ? The led can come out and blink .. but the voltage can be wrong. Cause i can't see how a capacitor swap can solve that 110V difference.
@libenasukro6 жыл бұрын
I read an explanation in the comments of another video. It was said that the circuit for this charger is designed for 85 volts up to 250 or so, which means that for just a few pennies, dewalt could have made all of them multivoltage. but I don't know yet how he picked the values for the resistors or knew that they belonged there and as far as I know resistors do not have polarity.

I think you have mistaken to say that the white line in capacitor is positive. It is not positive. Also the 5watts resistor. There are no polarity on that resistor. Just to correct the misleading information.
@RiaanKeyser4 жыл бұрын
The Positive side usually has a stripe with the - on it the pin is also longer.

Why change the capacitor. If resistors would make 110V.

Are you sure? Will two resistors for 1/3 Ohm each one drop 110V?

Hey Riaan, is the charger originally is a 'fast charger' ? how long it should take to charge a battery ? what is the affect before and after converting the charger in "charging time" ? last but not least, should the LED change to green when it done ? other indication ?

Hi Riaan, just subscribed, How can I convert a battery charger of Input 110 volts out put 24 volts 25Amps to 220-240 Volts Input, 24Volts output, 15Amps, charger is Copper coil type.

Most of the world uses 220v and if you buy stuff from US/Japan and you don't want to use chunky power adapters, you have to convert your or but locally
