Anyone know why the straps hang like 10 feet long in the back of a car seat when you have an adjusted for one year old?

How do I get the holes to align so I can pop the straps through to the back?? I can’t figure it out for the life of me!

Hopefully you have an answer by now but what has worked for me is making sure that the headrest is in the lowest position. Given that the people setting up these seats are often sleep-deprived parents, you have to think manufacturers should make it easier.
