I am from Bangladesh and we have six very large Jackfruit tree. One jackfruit can weight up 100 lbs or even more. We usually eat the seeds once a while. Low heat, and slow roasting on the pan is preferable for most of the people here. I never had boil one but we always cook with curry and mix with other vegitables or Chicken. Cutting it half cook faster.

I boiled and mashed them, added a bit of butter and salt. Reminded me of Lima beans but sweeter.

Boiled with salt....just like GIANT BOILED PEANUTS! I LOVE THEM!
@Orlanzepol1236 жыл бұрын
You should've boiled them with a bit of sea salt. That'll bring out the flavor in them.

I think you fried the ones in skillet. For roasting you should use a dry skillet. That’s how you do chestnuts too. I wonder if the specialty skillets used in Italy for chestnuts would work better as it allows the flame to contact the nut/seed

Thank you for comparing them. It’s very helpful.

I grew up eating these, the best way to have it if not adding it to a curry is on the skillet, make sure you do this with no oil, thats the reason they burnt, just dry off the seeds and throw them onto a hot skillet, shake them until they crack and your good to go
@wendynisley25356 жыл бұрын
+morphing slug Ooooh jackfruit seeds would be amazing in a curry! Thanks for the tip about no oil!

You can also cook it in water and stir fry with onions, plenty of garlic, chilli powder, grated coconut and salt. Tastes really yum.

you can just make a wood fire outside in the garden once the flames dies down just throw the nuts into the fire wood and leave for few minutes till the outer shell blisters out, remove them and wait few minutes to cool and peel off the outer shell and dip the nuts in chilly tomato paste or mustard paste and eat. Also you can eat with grated coconut and chilly sambol. You can also cook them into a dark thick curry, or half boil and remove the shell then cut in half and add salt and put them into microwave and roast them

Thanks for sharing! I was going to try the other methods, but I guess we'll stick with boiling it! My daughter boiled the and then used the food processor to make a paste, like a hummus. And she added some roasted garlic to it too. It was divine!

The skillet method is very easy to burn them. If they taste like dry potato, you've over cooked them. I had one out of my skillet that did not get over cooked and it has potato flavor with soft peanut texture, much more flavor.

When you blister a food the outside looks burnt and the inside is cooked. You roast peppers by blistering them then peeling the burnt blistered part off and eating the rest giving it a roasted flavor. You made the comment that the seeds being cooked in the iron skillet doesn't seem to be blistering yet they ARE Blistered when you said that.
@gabrielaone16196 жыл бұрын
Why cook them when they taste so good raw? Cotten 🍭
@benjaminredbull215 жыл бұрын
I heard that they are poisoness eaten raw. That's why I am here. I ate one raw and now I am freaking out.
