Saw this on Instagram and came right here. I like how they came out soft and without lots of flesh on the inside. And the small specks of lemon rind are the ish!! They promise a whole world of citrusy goodness.

I did my maadazis yesterday and goooosh! I surprised myself. It was in the evening to be tea snacks for breakfast and they almost got turned to supper. Thanks again for the video. Will keep doing it every time i want to cook maadazis

I pray NOBODY adds water to hot oil to check the temperature!!!! The oil will jump at you and burn your face or hand. I know this from experience, my whole arm got covered with hot oil. Take heed, you don't need to find out from experience. Having said that, I was so excited to find a recipe without milk and eggs!!! I have been looking on here all afternoon! Thank you soooo much! Off I go to make some mandazi.

hey Shamila yes most definitely you can use the zest of the lemon and MILK. or even coconut milk.

Hey Akinyi I used self raising flour for this recipe.... Am not sure which the golden one is... However all self raising flours should be similar regardless of brand.

Hey Nanyondo...its fine you can make it without the vanilla essence. Vanilla essence just adds a little extra flavour but its not necessary.👍 Happy Cooking.

Hey Dixie sure you can use milk with the 'lemon zest'....not lemon juice( as that would curdle the milk...changing the texture, however you can always experiment if you want and let me know what the result is lol😁

Hey ceke... I used lemon zest...so if you mean if you can use lime zest instead then yes. Our kenyan lemons are green unlesss your referring to the imported yellow ones and yes you can still use them👍

I tried the recipe and my dough was very liquidy...so I just added a bunch of flour...is this ok?

hey Hannah...yes should be fine as long the dough isnt too hard when your kneading it... as you really need to knead it until it soft and stretchy....and if the dough is too hard, you can tell it wont knead well...Maybe next time you could add little water at a time as perhaps my cup measurents differs from yours. Hope that helps.

Hi Linda...your mandazi will get oil inside if when they are in the frying oil they puff up and break creating a hole, it tends to suck up the oil.... So when rolling out your dough just ensure that your dough is not rolled out too thin and that your oil is relatively hot as if the oil is just luke warm your mandazis will also soak up oil... Hey Joy...yes absolutely you can... The vanilla essence is just for extra flavour though not necessary.

Hey Mary... Honestly i have not tried all of them together... Most people do use eggs, margarine and milk and they taste great and soft ❤ Though yoghurt is a different texture... I sense it might be more crumbly when deepfried as opposed to fleshy... I could be wrong as I have not tried it. I find yoghurt works better for flat breads, hopefully it shouldnt be too different in mandazi... You might have to experiment and see if it works out... Would love to know the outcome.
