If you don't have muslin, an old sheet works too. Usually a cotton sheet without a lot of busy print can do in a pinch. Muslin is preferred but sometimes people do t have access to fabric stores or have limited funds.

Thanks for posting this. Very effective method, and the final product is quite stylish. I presume when you were adding 5/8th to the side seams to compensate for non-knit fabric, that was to both the front and back seam.

Thank You for this lovely video. This is a very fine easy way how to copy pants and jeans. I shall go to the fabric store and purchase fabric and muslin. Tell me how much muslin to purchase for jeans and non jean pants and skirts? Thank You

Take any and all clothing items to the fabric store with you and let the experienced cutter help you determine how much yardage while laid out on the cutting table - that's the best I can advise you to do from here. Let us know about the outcome!

Thank you! Love the muslin method. I'm having a horrible time trying to copy a simple pair of pants that are made of stretchy material and were 'loved to death.' They stretch way out in places and shrink in others, the edges roll, and I KNOW the crotch can't be that droopy! Thing is, they aren't PJ's, they fit differently, and I want them back...But after spending so much time on them I'm ready to wave a white flag. I've even tried spray starch. Any ideas?

Well, the white flag may be the most sensible, because if the item is too stretched out from belovedness, then it sounds as though it's too late to copy them accurately. At this point possibly you would want to take them apart and use the original as the pattern. Bottom line - avoid copying anything that's too far gone out of shape because what's the point then. Good practice though, right!

how do you copy the back size? do you face the back up or down? and do you fold the muslin up from both sides, or is it possible to adjust the straight line of the pants on the muslin, and only in the other side to fold it above the pants?

All good questions sara1 - your instincts are good also - I believe the video shows how to copy the back side. Sounds like you're ready to just do it!

@@SuperHeroSewing Thanks. the front side was easy, but the back is much more difficult, because it is bigger than the front. maybe you can make a video how exactly copy the back of the pants

Well, you would just position the muslin over the back and align with seam allowances, yes, more challenging, but I feel there's enough info for you to trust yourself and go for it! Good luck!
