***
Hello Makers and welcome to Sheer Stitchery!
In this video I will walk you through how to copy any article of clothing you might want to recreate. In this instance I am using my favourite tee that is old and well worn so I can make a bunch more in some exciting fabrics!
You will learn:
- how to sew with knits
- how to draft a t-shirt pattern using a ready to wear (RTW) tee as atemplate
- how to refine the pattern you traced
- how to sew a t-shirt
***
▶ RESOURCES & LINKS MENTIONED IN THIS VIDEO:
- Pattern is self drafted, but you can check out the written steps here: sheerstitchery.com/blogs/sew-alongs/how-to-copy-your-favourite-tee

I know! Especially during quarantine, why wear anything that isn't completely comfortable? 🤷‍♀️

I wanted to do this, but I was not sure where to start. I was considering taking my shirt apart. This is better, thank you.

After tracing out the pieces, how would you expand them? I'm thinking of tracing pattern pieces from a dress I have, but expand them out several inches so I can recreate it to fit me.

If you are looking to grade up in size, you can take the measurements from the existing garment and add the amount that you need for your measurements (don’t forget ease and seam allowances). There are a number of awesome grading books that show in detail how to grade out. Let me know if you want the names of any of them.

@@SheerStitchery Thank you for your advice! Yes please. Could you share some of the names?

@@violetadominguez6632 1. Kathy K. Mullet, Concepts of Pattern Grading: Techniques for Manual and Computer Grading - Bundle Book + Studio Access Card (my favourite for grading) 2. Helen Joseph Armstrong, Patternmaking for Fashion Design (mostly drafting but this is one of the ones I learned on - so great) 3. Winifred Aldrich, Metric Pattern Cutting for Women's Wear (more of a drafting book)

Wow like i never knew there was math involved in making patterns and clothes >~< but seriously it feels likes if i was tasked to make something like a tee without instructions i would say that i have the basic idea on how too xD

Oh, and if you draft by scratch there is a lot of math. Kind of fun.. but that's just me 👌
