we get the concept but your bird nest is not a good idea. To moist, when it rains you have a small pool. try using the tops of weeds, the seeds and husk. Also a chimney effect is what you need, make the kindling upright like a teepee.

Better is relative. This works great. Your technique doesn't work with all rods. This one does.
@adventureswithfrodo27216 жыл бұрын
TJack Survival what rod doesn't it work that would be one not to buy.also when you are spraying the sparks through the air the are losing heat. It is just sad.........

You're right. So stop claiming authority.

I like how you edited your original comment to make it seem as if we weren't talking about something that we were. That's shady.

Thanks for showing how hard it can be. I had the same problem and got discouraged. I live in a really humid place and can't find any really dry tinder.

You should remove correctly from the title of your video!

You should make your own video if your way of skinning the cat is so much better than everyone else's.
@jamesaritchie17 жыл бұрын
Who said "better"? When you say you're doing it correctly, you're implying that others are not. Others do not have to make a video to know what you're doing is pretty silly. And speaking of silly, take off those idiotic gloves. You look like a little boy trying to act grown up.

Finally a true demo of how difficult it can be to get a fire started in an emergency. Too many people think a ferro rod is all powerful. thanks for showing the truth.

Why you do it with the edge of the knife????? Never use knife edge for fire making with fero rod!!!! NEVER!!! You will damaged the knife edge!

The vast majority of the time I don't. But if you listen to the explanation, I tell you why I did in this video. I have a feeling you didn't even watch the video.
@TJackSurvival6 жыл бұрын
Also if you watch you see I only did that for a demonstration of how to do it with a knife that is coated. I then used the back of the blade for the rest of the time until it was lit. Attention to details.

Sorry, my mistake. Please excuse me. Most of time I watch the videos without sound.

Ya I have multiple back ups. We did a bow drill that weekend and Jake's worked but mine just wouldn't catch and it got dark to fast to make a new spindle for my drill. Had that been a survival situation I would have gone to the striker or my lighter or just been cold that night. That's why we practice.

The rain didn't help either. Those nests were fluffier than the ones we used last week. Either way we made it work in the end showing with and without the cotton and jelly.
@wildjakessurvival11 жыл бұрын
The reall problume that we hade with this nest was that it was not ground fine enough. You will notice that Tyler would get a flame and then it would go out. The part that lights and then burns out was the hair like fibers, the rest of it was just two thick for the heat from that small flame source. This was a fun weekend, Thanks Tyler!

I needed to crunch up the bark much more than I did. Well you learn when you go out and practice the stuff more than in any other way.

You know when I had a scout troop I always had a little bottle of "Old Indian Trick" in my pocket. Then when they weren't looking a little shot of that and when they turned around my fire was just blazing. the scouts never figured it out. :-) Just teasing-- But it was a good weekend and I learned a LOT!!! Thanks for the time we spent together. Jake is a great teacher and he amazes .with his insight into problems and solutions.

The funny thing is that I am sure half of the fires burring right now are man made. Not a good thing at all.

good vid was surprisingly difficult as looked felt so dry the tinder even after a light shower of rain! on it i thought it would go! atmospherics & ambient ground cover temps can affect fire behaivour radically!! also can prove very tricky just after rain!! good back up though prevented failure! which is good to always have!

next time you do a how too vid on how to light a fire id go out just after a heatwave!!!! haha!!!ha like you said dont give up when its damp!! if you desperate! enough it will in a semi desert regions start burning down half of utahs national state forest & forcing mass evacuations of tourists! for many hundreds of miles around!! but at least you wil know after your interrogations by police and natl park ranger service that your firelighting skills are second to none! as your digging trails
