I'm a dealer and we see it quite a bit. The casino's policy, if they think you're counting, is to just tell the dealer to reshuffle the cards more often, like a new shoe after every ten hands. That neutralizes the issue pretty well, and if you think about it, it's just as admissible for the casino to reshuffle whenever they want as it is for the player to count. We have to be able to swap out the cards when there's any other issue, so we'll use that prerogative on counters, too. In a lot of cases, I just let them count. I had one kid, under 25, who was visibly mouthing the count to himself as I was dealing and he was having a hard time with it. At first, I thought he was wasted. It was hilarious to watch and he didn't win.

If you do it, do it responsibly, don't forget that the casino always wins at the end. And thanks for your sweet words!
