Not many people do this, but instead of scanning the footprints right away with Jackal, it's useful to follow them to where the roamer is. This is better as the roamer had no idea you are coming for them.

+Desrever like I said there are very few situations where marking is a good idea. In that case it is a good idea if the teammate has shot lined up before hand and wants the mark to confirm. Otherwise you are giving the person a chance to get off their camera and move before the teammate can take a shot.

I dont like the logic that Jackle is a bad pick for countering roamers, you provide the example that his ability lets the target know, and thats a decent argument. But Jackles vision alone is an excellent tool without the detection. For the first while I played Jackle I didn't even know you could track people by using the ability on footsteps, I thought he just saw them as that was powerful enough. And I don't see how them knowing is bad, you say so yourself "As soon as you start tracking them they will fall back to site and hope they don't catch you on the way", so getting a direct position on where the enemy is with the first ping and knowing their exact destination is a bad thing and can't possibly be to your advantage? Predicable behavior is the single easiest way to get kills in any game, especially Siege, and in this case you're forcing their hand to work in your favor.

You always see comments about "well smart players do this" well we already know they do things like that and we have developed tactics to cut those ones off. Also that SMART players. Other players still give us good kills which makes the "smart players" arguement invalid. Even if they avoid perfect tracking they still leave a general area of where they are. I feel that a lot of people don't really capitalize on Jackal's gadget's capabilities very well, because they immediately start tracking any footprints they see, almost always losing their quarry in the process or better yet getting murdered because they left themselves wide open. I have found that the best way to use Jackal is to simply spot footprints and track them manually until you get to where the footprints are RED, as that means they were very recent. You take a buddy with you, grab good angles in the area you think they'll take off from, and THEN finally you get your scan. Most people take off whenever they notice they've been scanned, and in this case they run right into your loving embrace... uhhh, I mean, bullets. They run into your bullets.

With the first question, I'd say that marking someone with your drone can be a useful tactic. Like you said, when they get marked, they usually panic and try to reposition. I often use this to my advantage with my friends and have the roamers run out of their cover and expose themselves. Works well when you already have someone looking where they are but they can't peek without exposing themselves.

Tagging a roamer is okay in rare situations. If your teammate is about to push and wants an exact location or is ready for a wallbang but wants to make sure to line it up just right and the communication is down for when and how the tag with go down it can be used, but very rarely and only when asked for or communicated beforehand

Fun fact I learned about jackal, although it's old news to everyone in the know. He can scan prints from the bottom as well. I didn't realize that till mid way through white noise. A Buddy buck'd the ceiling, and me as jackal was able to tag a few prints from below. The little things.

Because you were talking about Jackal, a very nice tactic with the white noise operation coming out, Picking Jackal & IQ is a very nice combos, because Jackal can track them down and IQ can kill them and also track them down. Another nice tactic is to locate the roamers and cut off any way to the objective room and then scan them with jackal as the roamers will run right into the arms of the attackers ;)

The thing with Jackal is that you don't need to use it. It's there as a really effective way to hunt down roamers IF you know they are cornered. Just drone ahead first then activate the footstep tracking and get their exact position in a room. But just droning works 99% of the time anyways so maybe other utility is better. So basically use it in cases where you would mark targets, which is often in situations where the enemy already knows you know about them to get an exact position.

Jackal is good not necessarily for hunting the roamers, but for eliminating the amount of roamers. Every time you are roaming and you see that the enemy has a Jackal, the defenders groan to themselves. As you said, Jackal as soon as he starts tracking the roamers usually makes a mad dash back to the objective.

Sometimes with jackel a good strat is to follow the footprints instead of analyzing them sometimes when ur looking for roamers by yourself follow the footprints until u find the enemy now this won't work if you have a pile of footprints and it can be dangerous as when ur looking down someone can sneak up and kill u but it does sometimes work

When I play rank, I usually have the role on playing Jackal. I do say that Jackal is a good operator to hunt down roamer, but most of the time I just check the roaming route. ( The path where it doesn't lead to any hatch or area doesn't associated with the obj) Drone is the best way to spot a roamer even for Cav. I mostly use Jackal ability to scan the remaining defender, who are playing site. It helped wall banning and overall cost the player to panic a bite. Most Jackal player always scan and immediately run to shoot the ping, which usually is a dumb idea. A good player will be ready when they are spotted by Jackal. They also know where they left their footprint. Cutting off rotation route or have other teammate to pin the roamer is always the best method.

Actually there is a bug where if your 1st drone is muted, and you throw your 2nd drone the 1st one won't get destroyed. However you can only use the 2nd one, but if the 2nd one is destroyed, you can still use the 1st drone as long as you destroy the mute charge.

#1 Marking allows for accurate wallbangs. Tell your teammate roughly where they are, count down your ping for them and then the exact second the roamer knows he's spotted he's also dead. #3 Capitao should not hunt roamers because it's high risk. His gadgets use skyrockets once the objective is secured. And Thermite and Thatcher and *especially* Hibana can hunt roamers once their gadget has been deployed. Hibanas easily deployable gadget, great guns, high speed and bullshit hit box make her an amazing fragger.

Pinging the roamers isn't always bad, u can use it for them to relocate, panic, or just help the teammate get a guaranteed wallbang. For instance if he's in construction in house, u can have someone ping him to force him out of construction and have a teammate waiting for him

I would say that, while you usually shouldn't mark a roamer, I consider marking acceptable if you can't afford to take the time to line up a shot on said roamer (say the roamer is closing for a kill on your teammate or you're trying to rush and just getting the roamer out of the path is what's important). I know that would require extreme situational awareness, but I'm just suggesting that there's a rare occasion when it's a good idea.

play fuze on hostage, fuze every room on the other floor/floors. i find it funny that people always lose their drone, but i spend the prep phase trying to climb around the map rather than doing anything useful. 1 thing with jackal is to follow roamers footsteps and not to scan them, only scan them if there is a huge pileup, that way you know they will be back at site or somewhere you can push. If you find a trail, you usually find them, a good jackal and a drone guy can track a roamer around the map by saying where the footsteps go.

The thing is, you don't need to scan footprints with Jackal to make his gadget useful. If you are cleaning the entire building for example then it makes it a lot faster if you don't see any footprints and you know enemy doesn't have a Cav. If you see red prints then you generally know you are very close and you can even partially scan the prints just to see where lines point to. His guns were made to be extremely good also just so he can counter roamers more efficiently. Overall, Jackal was better in countering roamers with flashbangs though :/ Ubi pls.

Yes, you should mark a enemy, should you mark a enemy everytime? "No". Putting just a little doubt in a enemy's head is the second best thing you can do when they are roaming. If a roamer runs into objective (most of the time they get picked off before making it back, especially if you have a hasty line of attack) then your crew can move forward. However if they don't then understand, they need a little more then doubt put in their head.
