This video is very helpful, but make it look easier than it was for a beginner. A few tips we learned by trial and error: use corn starch rather than powdered sugar (less sticking); roll on counter - don't roll on parchment paper; don't let the fondant get less than 1/8 inch because it will tear - formula for fondant size was too big and too thin; use cover the came color as cake and icing - easier to cover mistakes (she's bold using red fondant with red icing; have extra fondant in case you have to start again; make the cake a day before and allow a couple hours for decorating. breathe...

Watch the brands too, some brands are ok for cupcakes but it’s too tender for a cake. Kind of like stewed beef that’s cooked for 4 hours.

@wilton Жыл бұрын
Hi Deb! For fondant covered cakes, you'll want to work with a room temperature cake and avoid the fridge or any other humidity changes. Humidity changes can make the fondant "sweat" and sometimes even slide off your cake. For fondant covered cakes you'll always want to use an icing like buttercream and avoid any fillings that require refrigeration. Happy Baking!

Hello, we do recommend covering with buttercream first to keep the cake moist and have something for the fondant to stick to. Instead of a smoother you can use an offset spatula. Hope that helps!

Great video. I'm planning on giving my first cake a go. Unfortunately I don't have a rotating table, a smoothing tool or the flat utensil you used for the buttercream. do you think this will still be possible to do?
@sammyxgoose8 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! The turntable just makes it easier to turn. Use a butter knife for the off set spatula. The flat thing is totally optional, I don't usually use one! Just try to keep your hands flat when smoothing.
