Another tip too is timing especially with the overhead. Shorter whips require less "turnback" time. I instantly change direction on my 6ft bullwhip for an overhead but for my 10ft it takes a good second or so before I need to change direction to get a solid crack

@@javierdiaz9497 Definitely! For starters, I always recommend nylon whips like the one in this video. A much more affordable option starting out and tough enough to survive any mistakes in the learning phase. Chayton from Okie_Bullwhips (formerly CP Bullwhips) on Instagram makes great nylon whips.

Is it actually possible to swing from things with the whip like in the Indiana jones films? Like when in Temple of Doom Indy swings to get to the big statue
@kirkbrackmann6385 Жыл бұрын
Possible? Yes and no. It’s been done before, I think there are some KZbin videos of people doing it. It was even featured on mythbusters. Recommended however, absolutely not. Both roohide and nylon have amazing strength but aren’t designed to have that much weight or stretch put through them. Especially because the part of the whip that does the wrapping is the “fall” and is only a single strand of leather, as opposed to the plaited (braided) strands that would provide more strength.
@andreasnilsson5020Күн бұрын
So wait Do you crack the whip against its natural curve or with it. As in the natural C curve you fold it at, should that face the other side when you crack?
@kirkbrackmann6385Күн бұрын
Great question! 99% of the time, WITH the natural curve, trying my best to stick with a more De Longis style.
@andreasnilsson5020Күн бұрын
@@kirkbrackmann6385 ok excellent 👍 I assume from your reply that there’s another style which uses against the curve. So I’m guessing, Indy does it with the curve. Also I noticed from your video I probably have been holding my whip incorrectly. You grab it by the heel knot, I grabbed it by the handle…oops

I keep bullwhipping my head when i practice the overhead crack. I have an 8 footer. Any advice cowboys and archeologists?
@kirkbrackmann6385 Жыл бұрын
Biggest thing to avoid hitting one’s self practicing the cattlemen’s (in my opinion) is to really emphasize the pause at the top and come forward (not down) slower than it might feel like you should. Like you are tossing a ball forward instead of slamming it down. That way, even if the whip doesn’t crack, your head will be out of the line of fire. Hope that helps! Be safe out there!

Even a brand new one that is really stiff will still be crackable. But after a few sessions, you’ll feel it start to break in and gain flexibility.

the last point was really important hahaha. Also, you dont want to crack the whip in a park with a lot of people, most of the people are okay with it, but theres always a crazy person that will think that you are whipping people and stuff and they most likely call the cops on you ( experiences from the past.... ) Trying to avoid dogs is important, a dog try to attack me one time when i literally was on the same spot for 3 hours and the owner and the dog showed up ( and ofc the owner was a PS about it ). So trying to avoid people is the best heheh
