So Jewel crafting is live on Earth 2. Here’s a little guide, showing how to upgrade all jewel tiers, how to unlock the 5 new jewels and how to improve the jewel quality.
Black
Blue
Green
Grey
Ochre
Sandy
Yellow
These are all the defaults.
3x of any will create a Tier 2 Jewel.
Just click your pile of jewels and bring it over to the crafting table and click again to place. Then click up on the spread over until it’s spread over 3 slots. Don’t worry about how many jewels are placed. It will only use one at a time in recipes. But sure not to enable bulk shattering.
Now if you don’t have the receipt it will say “Trial” then show you the result. After the receipt is unlocked it will change to “craft”. You then need to click and move your new jewel to your inventory before you can do any more crafting.
This same process can be used for all colours of Jewels.
Now onto unlocking the new jewels. Purple, sunrise and sunset, orange and jamaica
Purple requires x1 tier 2 Ochre and 1x tier 2 blue. Same process for crafting again. Click the craft or trial button and then move to inventory.
Orange is 1xGrey and 1xSandy.
Sunrise is 1x blue, 1x Red and 1x Grey
Sunset is 1x Sand, 1x Purple and 1x Orange
Jamaica is 1x black, 1x Yellow and 1x Green
Now onto Jewel Upgrades.
By default crafted jewels are cracked.
We can upgrade these with shards. Simply place the jewel you want to upgrade into the crafting table and add shards.
8 Shards = Cloudy
25 Shards = Common
50 Shards = Clear
84 shards = Luminous

Always transform it. E-ther doesn't store.

@@RingingPeaceHB I've done a mixture of sunrise and Jamaica as both use about the same number of jewels. I've then replaced as many slotted jewels for those as possible. But at this point your guess is as good as mine.

What jewel was it you were trying to upgrade? Are you sure you had enough shards and essence to cover the transaction?

A hypothesis I would like to see others try to see what results you get also: Does crafting with Luminous component jewels to say a Sunset Jewel improve it's values? It seems to, but only slight! I noticed several of the same class and type of jewels had variations: Luminous Sunset's Sand Production: 1.16%, 1.17%, 1.18% It is expensive in essence to improve the component jewels prior to crafting the level 2, BUT when improving that resulting Jewel, it seems to require less essence. I dont think it is cheaper in essence, but it would make sense when you're using refined the components, you get more refined/powerful resulting jewels.. I crafted a Sunset Jewel using combinations of this and there seems to be a coorelation between pre-refining jewel components and a higher production number. The ether generation from the higher level gems remains the same though.

It's certainly something that needs looking into. I've had similar thoughts/queries myself. Unfortunately I don't have enough jewels to properly study it/make a decent record.

@@Paceys I've tried using luminous jewels from Tier 1 to Tier 2 and then the combined Tier 2... Jamaica, Sunrise, Sunset, Orange, etc.. but haven't seen a pattern outside it seemed to spend more essence early and save it later on the final stage. I dont think it ultimately saved Essence though. but I still tried it a few times, in case the Jewels were better quality. as there's still some randomness in it all :P

Jewels have buffs such as +resource production, reduced research time, + ether detection. Craftinf creates higher tier jewels with more advanced buffs. Although the only buff of use right now is the +ether. They will be more useful once resources/tech trees hit.
