I JUST bought and unwarpped a brand new ScanDisk Cruzer 32 GB thumb drive. Windows 10 is saying it cannot format it, that it doesn't recognize it. I've stuck that thing into every USB port I've got and it says the same on them ALL. I was able to look at it under disk partition, and created a healthy partition, BUT ... I still cannot put anything on the USB flash drive! What am I doing wrong??

Thanks for this video, Richard! Everything worked as shown until I tried to change to drive C: with "C:", at which point FreeDOS gives the error "Invalid drive C:.". I tried booting with different options and always got the same result - so any suggestions would be very welcome...

+fburton8 That probably means that the drive letter assignment has changed under dos. Use notepad to save a file to the C:\ drive call it TEST.txt and then boot with FreeDOS and start going through the drives A: B: C: D: E: until you find the one with the TEST.txt file then you will know you are on the right drive. +Richard Lloyd Appreciate the feedback. The odd thing is it worked the second time I tried it. That was after trying a different utility called rufus (which worked, although I couldn't see the system files with that one). Then I repeated your procedure with YUMI exactly as before and it worked. Not sure why things were different the second time, but I'm happy with the result - so, thanks again!

Nice tutorial, Thanks. 1 question though, how do I get the games to run with sound? IIRC DOS games had to be told which IRQ and COM port your soundcard was on how do we do this on modern hardware?

I'm trying to avoid emulation. Mame and DosBox all work fine but I'd really rather run it on real hardware. I've searched for a sound driver or something that will emulate a soundblaster or similar but none exist. :( I wonder if a PCI to ISA adapter would work, then I could buy a ISA soundblaster and run it on my PCI bus.

You could give it a try or you could scrape up some old hardware with ISA slots on the motherboard. The old DOS games did not require all that much horsepower. You can find an old ATX PC at your local Good Will or a garage sale. If you want new hardware you could use a board like this from Amazon: MSi 6167 ATX AMD Slot A Motherboard Retail MS-6167 you can still find the standard SB16 cards on Ebay etc. Probably the easiest sound card to use as it was the standard when the games where created. Great tutorial. Suggestions on how to change the Master Boot Record? Can I do this by copying the DOS files to a DOS directory on C, then setting the partition as active, or, typing MBR.Exe?? Suggestions, hints? Thank you.

Looks like they dumped that project. You can use Rufus a USB image creator to create a Freedos bootable thumb drive. I've tried it and it worked for me. Thank you so much for commenting and watching. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀

I recently upgraded my bios now it's showing a wrong cpu instead of the one I have installed will this help me downgrade it back to the old bios I had, any help?

It may if you have a DOS BIOS flash program that allows you to pick which file to flash you may be able to flash it back but there are no guarantees. Thanks.

Richard Lloyd sorry i forgot to mention im on a laptop i went to the website to upgrade my bios shorty after it turning on it had problems what i said above i tryed to install the old version but it said it wasn't newer then the one i had that's when i knew i was fucked but i did download the right bios from the website acer because mine showed it was out of date, Do you know anything i could do or if my warranty could cover it thanks for you're help

If the upgrade that messed it up was recommended by Acer then for sure call them up and they should make it good for you. If it happened to you for sure it happened to others and they will know and more than likely are already working on another upgraded BIOS to fix the problem or at leas a viable work around. Give them a call and see what they say. Please update us so we know how Acer handled it. I have a few Acer netbooks and they have been rock solid performers but I am curious about how they will handle your case. Thanks and all the best.
