China’s success is not just because of its cheap labor. India has cheap labor, Africa has cheap labor, and there is cheap labor everywhere in this world. China’s success is due to its unique political system, education, Chinese culture, and size.

You’re spot on, China indeed build their wealth starting with something simple and despite criticism of complaints the products were low quality but they improved and keep on improving. One must respect their government for having long vision and looking after their citizens. I have changed my mind about CCP, they are actually the force for goodness.

What allowed China to catch up to the USA economically? It is the difference in the political system and the people that allowed China to catch up to the USA. And it is this difference that will allowed China to surpass the USA. In China, the government actually works for the people by trying to lower the cost of living, raising the standard of living, creates policies that benefit the majority of the people, and creates policies that help those who are really in need. In the USA, it is the mostly the opposite. The government spreads propaganda demonizing China, Communism, Socialism, and non-Western societies while spreading propaganda angelizing itself. Unfortunately, the USA is really about creating policies that benefit the elites and oligarchs at the expense of the lower class. Furthermore, the USA government creates policies that raises the cost of living, which degrades the standard of living. As income decreases with increasing cost of living, everything is affected by a lower income.
In president Xi's words, it's better to offend the minority elites than the majority of the ordinary citizens.... contrary to the West's capitalistic mindset, go think about it.

Japan used to produce tin toys (before plastic came in as a cheap alternative) in the 1920s-1950s/. Same story (actually, some of those 'cheap" Japanese toys are today, collectors' items that fetch very high prices for those that are in working order and in near new condition). Every economy starts along similar pathways - start small and them slowly climb upwards. The Chinese used to say, "we made 2,000,000 socks to buy one small fishing boat. That fishing boat allowed us to catch and sell 500,000 fishes to buy a larger boat. "

@tropicshadeАй бұрын
The Chinese are very smart when it comes to manufacturing. For example, many Chinese products are designed for the markets they sell to. Take the Philippines for example... cheaper goods with lower price points that Filipinos can afford. And that goes with saying that there are also very high quality products being produced in China, for target markets. One should remember that this is exactly how Japan lifted itself post WWII.

I remember the sayings that Made in Japan and Made in China equaled cheap junk. With improving quality that was turned around. Sure, Temu might still have a mix of shoddy goods, but they also have good stuff. If China can continue to supply the cheapest labor their sales will continue to skyrocket.

As a fellow Canadian, I can tell you this. Canada has one of the largest oil reserves in the world but is reluctant to build an oil refinery (for huge initial cost and environment concerns), instead we build a pipeline to ship the oil to refinery in Houston. Why can't Canada do it here ? Also, Ontario is the biggest car parts suppliers to Detroit but we don't assemble cars, why can't we ask Ford or GM to build the entire car there in Oshawa instead of shipping back and forth to Detroit ? makes no sense.

The west didn't just give China a chance to take advantage of the plastic toys, they gave China a second opportunity when they destroyed Japanese manufacturing in the likes of Toshiba etc in the '90s to 2000's. Because the Japanese manufacturing prowess was diminished, Japanese professionals and engineers, managers and their top know hows were out of work. So what happens is they went looking for other opportunities and found China were in need of their services. Top engineers from like Matsushita industries were all working there in China. The rest followed, and that's all history now. I can attest to this development as I happen to know people from Matsushita.
@mengkhiangtan1144Ай бұрын
the Japanese factor is just a drop in the ocean, dont over play it. China progress started in the 70s, way before Japanese engineers were out of work.
