Do you polish the gourd before applying the ink dyes?

We apply Formula 49 before applying the Ink Dyes. The Formula 49 conditions the gourd shell so that the Ink Dyes go on with smooth, even color and blend easily. The Formula 49 can also be used to blend color together.
