How to create a minimalist painting.. fluid art acrylic pour painting
I created these two paintings with the explicit intent of making a minimalist piece.
I used very little coloured paint on a base of white housepaint.
I used about a tspn of 4 or 5 mixed colours. I added black paint to some bright paint to tone it down.
i am using housepaint mixed with US Floetrol as my base coat which creates some special effects as I pull my pallet knife through the colours. The colours are mixed 1 part paint to parts Floetrol.. and a little water..
Small mound that rests a second then disappears.
The Amsterdam formula is one part Amsterdam black oxide mixed with 4 parts US Floetrol.. no water.. I use it to shmear over the ribbons of paint.. creating Depth with cells and lacing..
I did 2 of these pieces.. One is softer in colour than the other..
I explain my method in the video.
I hope you might get some inspiration to try this. The real trick is to know when to stop..
Shmearing takes practice.. You are just skimming the pallet knife over the surface.. like frosting a cake.
