Super helpful video, thank you for all the great information! I just want to help dispel a common myth. JPEG files actually don't deteriorate in quality over time at all. The benefit of a PNG over a JPEG image is that the PNG is considered "lossless." If you export an image as a PNG, the resulting file is usually larger (in terms of file size) than a JPEG because it contains all the information from the original image file. A JPEG is considered "lossy" meaning when you export an image as a JPEG, you tell the computer how large and what quality you want the image to be, and any information beyond that is "lost." But once that JPEG is made, its quality will never deteriorate unless it is purposefully saved at a smaller size. With PNGs you also have the added benefit of transparency, which is great for logos.
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining 10 ай бұрын
Thanks for the clarification! I think in practice, since you can't control how someone will compress and manipulate an image, it's best to consider that a JPEG will eventually deteriorate, if that makes sense.

It can be painful to design something for team members with various skill levels and for those who don't value what good design does for a business. I especially resonated with the 2 line title lol. Well done on your tutorial! It's one thing to create a brand and then have a bunch of untrained sales people actually use it.

I hear you - it's one of the hardest parts of design. One of my top tips for distributing a template is to include training and make sure that people at least see how it's meant to be used. A simple 30 minute zoom call can have a huge impact. Thanks for the thumbs up!

Thanks for the vids... was wondering if you have any advice for Mac users - I can't seem to create a font theme in the Mac version of PPT.... Thanks!
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Todd - thanks for the question. Unfortunately, as of right now, there's no way to save a custom font combo on a Mac. Microsoft is trying to bring the two platforms closer bit by bit, but sadly this isn't something they've done yet. You can try hacking the xml if you're comfortable with coding, but otherwise I'm afraid there's not much you can do, other than provide instructions in the template for people to make sure they use the right fonts.

Is there a way to transfer a template between PowerPoints and have it properly apply the color scheme? I find that the colors typically get messed and was wondering if this is at all avoidable
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gabe! Yes, if the template was built correctly, using the theme colors for everything, when you change the color scheme, all the colors should adjust. If not, it means that the template was likely not set up correctly... especially if you're going between light and dark background variants. Here's a detailed tutorial on how to create a custom PPT theme (with fonts and colors): nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/powerpoint-tutorials/custom-powerpoint-theme/ Hope that helps! If not, please let me know a bit more about what's happening for you when you say the colors get messed. Cheers!

One particular thing about master slides is that pictures are always in the very background. So, if we put a logo on a master (or child), it can never be on top of other objects put on the slides. I like to work with pictures that cover the whole slide. Especially with a logo, it's a bit annoying. There's a workaround with the 'developer tool' or so, but that's rather complicated.
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, thanks for the comment, and you're absolutely right. When you're in the Normal View and you insert a picture into a placeholder (added on the Slide Master), the picture jumps above anything you've set on the Slide Master that isn't a placeholder, like a logo. Sadly, I haven't determined a good way around this, while maintaining the ease of using a template to control your logos. The way I would do it is to add the image in the slide background instead of directly on the slide.

Hi Camille, Re: logo insertion, how do you add a large logo to the cover page top left, and thereafter in the footer area, a small logo bottom right?
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining 4 жыл бұрын
For that you will want to add your left-logo to the title slide child layout (just make sure you hide background graphics on it first) and for small-footer, put that on the Parent slide (the big slide) so it shows up on all of your child slide layouts within your deck. That should do it for you. Hope that helps.

@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining Жыл бұрын
Hi VL and thanks! Your text should be able to easily be centered. One thing I would do is to check if there are any margins in the shape (right-click the shape and select 'Format Shape' and then in the panel, click on 'Text Options' and then 'Text Box'). I would also check for any indentation (right-click the shape and select 'Paragraph'). Hope that helps!

I love these tutorials thank you so much! I am trying to apply the stylistic bar on the slide number/footer that you did in this video, but when I do this on the parent slide, it doesn't show up on any of the child slides? Is there a trick or step I'm missing to making the slide numbers consistent from the parent to the children?

I have a question. I am editing a slide master layout placeholder. I am editing the text in the placeholder so that it does not automatically start woth bullet points. I want it to look like a block of text. I want the text style to be light and the paragraph spacing to be single in one box and 1.5 in another. I made these edits inside slide master layput placeholders and when I insert the layout in a new slide, it worked. However at some point in me editing slide master, It stops working and then it wants to insert the bullets again and defaults to some larger text. It looks fine in the slide master but when I go back to the slide or an insert a new slide, it throws a bullet in for me. I don't know why it worked originally but isn't working now. Any help?
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining 10 ай бұрын
Hm, I think I know what you mean. You will need to make sure you edit the text placeholder that is on the parent slide layout (the very top one) for those formatting changes to carry to all the text placeholders. Hopefully that helps!

12:13 - pasting a logo in - this is incorrect. PNG will absolutely lose quality over time as its still a bitmap - especially when made smaller they will look terrible and pixelated. The only way to avoid this is to import the logo as an EMF (enhanced metafile). This is a vector based format so you can resize it endlessly without ever compromising quality.
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining Жыл бұрын
Hi Nicky - you are right, EMF would probably be the highest quality. If you can get any kind of vector (SVG also), I would use that. PNG would however still trump JPEG. Thanks for the addition, Nicky.
