"This is a sketch of light and shadow. Obviously I don't understand light and shadow." This was the best, most relatable thing I heard this month.

This man is incredibly helpful and sounds incredibly bitter about everything he says. "I will now draw a happy dancing elf. Note the floral pattern on her kimono as she twirls. She is looking at the viewer and smiling." I tease, but honestly as I learn to draw myself I understand completely that intensity. It's not easy, trying to improve and figure out so many complex systems at once. This is the first video I've seen, but I can tell your channel will be helpful as I blunder my way down a similar path to yours.

Damn, even if you're not a really good artist, you're such a pro in composition, i admire you, it must be a little tough study composition, it's the part most ignored when you start study drawing, most people puts more attention on anatomy and coloring (yeah it's important, but composition is what makes a painting/drawing, more satisfacing to watch)

This series of composition and inmmersion are extremely helpful and i like that is perfectly clear and on point! I've been struggling with artblock and i can't quite grasp how to play with perspective yet but when everything else is clear, is just a matter of keep practicing, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us!

everything in drawing leads back to perspective, volume and sense of depth (overlap) imo. You dont need tutorials like "how to draw a bird", "how to draw a car" etc if you understand how to break things down into basic geometric shapes. If you can train your brain to automatically translate lines into 3 dimensional objects all thats left for you is to focus on the actual design - its really freeing and will open a lot of doors. Starting artists often focus on things like anatomy, color, composition etc when all those things are trivial at the start - perspective is such an incredibly important fundamental, its where everything else builds upon. You want to understand shadows and light? You need to know planes. You wanna understand planes? You guessed it - perspective xd.

Very good video, love this channel. Summer Elf is appealing, If I may give some critique though, she has 2 right hands and I can’t stop hating her feet. The kimono is genius, the z shape makes it look like she just now turned around.

God, finally. I have looked into and spent so much money trying to get info about COMPLEX perspective like this, and its always always alwats just the same information, and NOTHING about situations that break the rules. What if the vanishing point is like 5 feet away from the page youre drawing on? What if there are multiple vainishing points that are all not near the page youre drawing on? How do you convey the difference between something large but far away and smaller but closer, if the object is in the exact same space? Etc etc. This is such an amazing video, and free to access for any artist. Cannot thank you enough for this effort.

These tutorial videos have been great. They are a cut above many art tutorial videos I've seen here on KZbin. What resources do you use to study these concepts? Do you have any books on the subject you could point us to? What is your method for learning? I want to expand the way I learn and think about art, but it's hard to do that when you're stuck in your own methods. I would love some insight on how you do your research, where you get your sources, and how you go about breaking down information. Thank you for the videos. They're a big help!
