The diagonal is what thins the rectangle... The up/down will change the size while keeping the thickness, your tutorial is kind of correct, but not completely because you show the diagonal increasing the thickness again.

Is there a way to do this with a circle or triangle? I can't do the horizontal drag with a circle or triangle, so I"m wondering if anyone figured out how to do this!

I have found that when you search for "thin circle" your first choice is a dark orange circle. When I resize this the outline seems to stay relatively thin. I have not found a good option for a triangle. There is a yellow one that comes up when you search "thin triangle". It has a thin yellow outline and then some clear space and a solid yellow middle. You could place your triangle shape over the middle and keep the outer thin line - but it doesn't accomplish exactly what you want, I think.
