I want to get into modeling, so much more you can do. a quick question. after you have your waves imported/modeled. Can't you just copy and paste a flag vectors (thats how I do different 2D flags) but once you bring it over to your drawling, when you do your tool path click on the box "project onto a 3D model?" If so, It woukld be a quicker way, and keep all your proportions correct on the star and stripe placement as well. let me know what you think.

I like what you did, but really at 23:50, Use the Merge high, and raise your base height until it looks good. It will save a ton of work :) Great video, tho. @johnread74044 жыл бұрын
Type and layout letters the normal way, and when you go to set up the V Carve toolpath make sure you select\tick the box "project toolpath onto 3D model" Its near the bottom in the v-carve toolpath setup menu.
@badgrandpa86024 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the help. How do i get it to engrave on the inside of the letter , instead of the outside? Right now it shows cutting a male projection of the letter, basically cutting on the outside of the vector, and i want to cut the inside.

Hey man I followed your video step by step and made the flag in aspire but remeber you had set the material thickness for 1.5 but noted to make it 2 and you would explain later why you did that. Maybe I missed the explanation but my issue is my wood is 1.5 thick, would keeping the material thickness at 2 really matter? My waves are only .75 thick so I know I won't carve through the piece but should I just remodel the whole thing or you think I should be fine.
@garynorwalt61403 жыл бұрын
Nice job. Very cool design idea. A couple things I noticed though, were your stars and the circle. After you modeled the stars (~11 mins) you changed the size of them(~15 mins), you never remodeled the stars which is why they never lined up in the finished 3D view. The circle was a great idea(~28 mins) but if you use Merge High or Merge Low instead of Add it should get rid of those spikes around the edges of your model.

Liked and sub’d! I’ve been learning CNC on an x-carve at work and I’m planning on getting either an opensource or shapeoko soon for home. Dumb question when it comes to doing a 3D carve....when you switch tools and go to the finishing tapered bit....how you you set your Z height on the material? Great tutorial video....I learned a lot and followed along in my Aspire...so cool!
@johnread74044 жыл бұрын
As long as your tool offsets\tool lengths are set for each tool, the z height for the material will be the same throughout the programme. The g code will work out the toolpaths automatically based on this. I know on Shaepokos and X Carves etc, you might have to set the tool height\length\offset when you change each tool, but on mine you set the tool height/offset for each tool before you run the programme, (I use a jig so when I change each tool they remain the same height), and the z height on the material just carries through.
@tanddbi20053 жыл бұрын
fantastic video. it would however be nice to see a follow up video on the actually process for carving this out on your machine. specially since you would need a bit change and getting the z axis to the correct depth since the top of your material was removed from the roughing pass

To begin with, I'm using Desktop pro, but at the 2;13 mark, you hovered over the copy icon, but never said if you copied that, or not. Then at the 2;17 mark, you "clicked on that, it's highlighted, now we're gonna come over here to model, and click this right here..." except, for ME, the 'this here', isn't the same, and I can not FIND an icon, to match that one, anywhere.
