This apparently happens when you have an animation tree active in your scene. If you search for "Locked node property after key-ing value in animation track" on google, you'll see the solution. Won't let me link it here.

Your logic is somewhat reversed. Developers always called behaviors AI. It's now more common for people in general to talk about AI so they think developers just started using the term, but that's false. Follow behaviors, pathfinding, group behaviors: these were all grouped under the idea of AI because it doesn't only apply to NPCs, for one thing. NPC is a game concept. AI is a engineering concept applied to NPCs.
