Have you experimented with light writing or night photography in general?

I've played with it a "little", but was quite inspired by some Sonoran Desert shots by Nick Carver (posted about one year ago), where he shot some long exposures using different coloured gels on a flash to shoot some Saguaro cacti. Planning on attempting the same on some Joshua Trees, in Death Valley NP, this upcoming September.

Self timer plus the built in bulb timer most digital cameras have eliminate the need for any remote. But then B&H has a very good margin on those products, so why would they mention that?

This was a REALLY helpful tutorial, Gabe! I have one question, though. Does it matter when you pop the flash? Is it helpful to do it as close to the end of the exposure time as possible, or is there wiggle room? Thank you so much!

If you are in total darkness it doesn't matter. If you are in mixed ambient, I generally do it after the writing. However you can pop multiple flashes with your subject in different positions - endless opportunities!

I just discovered this while trying to solve the enigma of couple of photos I made just after the sunrise. I've got the similar results without using any kind of light. Does anyone know how images such as these could appear on my photos when literally no light source stood in front of my camera?? Ever heard of something like that?
