I don't use metallic impact sounds, but I use booms sometimes by putting a filter on a kick and bringing it down to around 200Hz and then adding reverb. Works nicely.

That’s so freaking cool. Gonna try this out in the morning. Gonna go jam with a buddy in the morning and I always bring a track to jam to. Gonna try an add this as a last note in an intro that rings and then the main part will start. Hell, I may have to set it tonight and get this stuff rolling, to cool and very inspirational.
