Jason great fantastic vid,i have the 30mm sigma and love it,i wanted to purchase the sigma 56mm 1.4 can you tell me how much farther can you be away from your subject with the 56 compared to the 30 and still get bokeh for video,ty
@Jason_Hermann2 жыл бұрын
Hello Paulie and thanks for the kind words! As far as the 56mm goes, that will be an effective 85mm view... So to appear looking similar to the 30mm view that you saw in the is video, the camera would need to be about 5-6 feet away from the subject. Mind you, if you can be further away from your background, that will also help with the background blur!
@pastafazoule2 жыл бұрын
@@Jason_Hermann well i notice in videos on youtube with the 56 they can get bokeh 20ft away from the subject if the background is a good distance away from the subject,is that true ty
@Jason_Hermann2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is how it works Paulie! "Depth of field" is effected by distance to the subject, aperture, focal length, and distance to the background ;) My background is only about 6 feet behind me for example which honestly makes it a littler harder to get that separation. If my background was 20 feet away it would look like buttery blobs of color pretty much for example... Also, keep in mind you might need a ND filter to shoot at f/1.4 outside though depending on the brightness of the scene! All the best, Jay

I did a poll the other day, and my subscribers asked for more "In The Field" skill based videos and I had a question about background blur, so this made perfect sense. @@Jason_Hermann Thanks for the opportunity to ask. I may have a question in the future. Up to this point I have learned from you. Activate, use, and even buy immediately, the Sony Alpha 6400. Thank you for everything you and your family from very far away.

I have a question. I just pre-orderer a Sony a6700. I want you to help me and advise me if you have time to answer me for sure... so I just need to know which lens I can buy that I can use indoors for a headtalk, and in the sametime , I can vlog with it outside if that make sense so I can blur the backgroud too when I am talking to the camera. Sorry for all this questions hhh and I am not a native english speaker so lot of non sense lol in my sentences, but please just bear with me. My budget is around $700 , and I can add like $150 for an ND filter If you can give me links, that would be awesome Thank you so much in advance and your video was reaaaallly helpful

Keep up ur awesome work..all the very best.

Thanks for sharing and yeah those step rings are a fantastic alternative to buying tons of filters ;) This way you can invest in a really good filter and use it on all your lenses or at least most of them... All the best, Jay

The way you say "bokeh" (the first way) is correct. It comes from the Japanese word "boke" (no "h" or "uh" sound). Anyway, nice bokeh in your video! Thanks for the tips!

Jay, I love your channel and am happy to support it through the "thanks" feature. I have the 3 Sigma lenses you recommend + the Sigma 18-50mm zoom for my Sony a6600. The largest filter thread on those lenses is 67mm. I am new to filters and your recommendation of step-down adapters is great. My question is, should I go with a 67mm to fit my largest lens or go with something bigger (72mm?) in case I go to an even larger lens in the future?
@Jason_Hermann2 жыл бұрын
Hi George, If you plan on buying an high quality filter and also another larger lens in the near future I would consider getting a larger filter. If your happy with your lens game for a while I would just go with the 67mm so you don't need to use the step-down rings...

Is it possible to still get the blurry background even if we aren't sitting this close to the camera? Would the focus mode make a difference? wide, center etc ? I was testing my sony lens 1.8/20 focus today and was happy to see your video.
@Jason_Hermann2 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely Shadi. To do that you would need to have the background further away. The farther away from the subject the more blurry it will be...

What mode do you generally shoot in? Do you use the movie dial to record or manual mode?

@@Jason_Hermann thanks I have a Sony a7c, do you shoot like this for that camera as well? Love your content by the way!
@Jason_Hermann2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I was using the Sony A7C, FE 35mm f/1.8 Lens, & the Variable ND Filter in the same way in the beginning of the video when I was talking to the camera. The only different setting I had on the A7C was I enabled the Picture Profile 7 which is sLog2. Pretty much raw "like" video to keep things simple... So, for that footage I had to grade it in post, which I am still learning about myself. In fact this video was the first time I ever used Slog2 for an actual video of mine... You might notice the footage looks a little desaturated in the beginning? Like I said, still learning... I did not shoot sLog2 on the a6400 though in this video, because I wanted to keep it beginner oriented... Plus I am very new to using sLog myself and I need to learn it better before trying to teach that stuff.. Thanks again for the kind words and all the best, Jay

Hey Jason, I noticed when shooting in the movie dual mode it looks like there is a crop factor in the screen compared to if I change the dial to manual or auto Why is that? It's a full frame, there shouldn't be a crop in movie dial mode correct?

Hello, As far as I understand it Movie mode films in the 16x9 format, but all the other modes film in whatever aspect ration you have set in the camera. Default is 3:2
