Thanks for covering this topic! I've seen celestial events that are carved in My memory. Like seeing shooting stars for the first time, there was one time when I was walking My dog and the lights went out (very comon ocurrence in latin américa) and when In looked up the full moon had a white halo around it, I've seen lunar and solar eclipses of course, there was another time when the clouds arranged themselves in a way that the moon ended up being in a Center of a triangular gap and it was just yesterday that I saw for the first time a circular rainbow around the sun! I wanted to watch it longer, but well the sun was in the middle of it hahaha thanks again (I thougth for sure that You were going to mention Avatar the last airbender and how fire bending depends on the sun😆).

I have the idea for a Port City but they had to contend with the issue of golden meteors every 10 years fortunately it's in the same spot so they leave vacant for that purpose

Interesting architecture right there.

I have an idea Dwarfs being perfectly one with stone and other elements they don't need a forge they can just shape it with their minds that's why they hate space gold because it's a different vibration so they can't manipulate it that way

Heh, that's an awesome thought :D

I have a atory I'm working on with a certain set of spells people can cast, but each of these spells is associated with a planet or other celestial object in the solar system and can only be properly used in the time when that planet is visible

I have this idea for a while inspired by Northern Lights call healing lights and those that are called light blessed the get different abilities from the lights maybe every 10 years for one year you get blue healing lights around the planet

Nice :D That would result in very interesting rituals.

The sky is of utmost importance in my story, but not in any of the ways you touch on in this video. In my world, people can NEVER see the sky beyond their own atmosphere. They have no concept of celestial events. The reason: my magic system has a physical component that completely fills up the atmosphere, making the sky look more like a glittering puddle of churning silver hanging over your head. You can't see through it. Were it not for the local religion, the people of this world would probably believe there was nothing in the heavens beyond, not even a sun. Changes in the appearance of the sky are indicative of changes in magic. For example, if people are using a great deal of magic off to the north, you might see a sudden stream of silver start flying north. The more magic is gathered in one area, the darker the sky becomes there, as this airborne magical component blocks more and more sunlight.

I gave Varafel, the world I'm building for a number of fantasy novels, two suns, three moons, and a set of Saturn-like rings. I did far too much math to set this up so that it would actually work (I go quite deep into the science of assembling my planets, then throw the magic in on top; I enjoy the nitpicking of physics, geological formation, and evolutionary biology). Eclipses are kind of frequent---the real thing to watch out for on Varafel is when all three moons line up. That has a *huge* effect on tidal and weather patterns.

I'm using astrology as a ticking clock. The dark lord must complete the ritual when the stars align in order to open a portal to the chaos realm. Will the knight arrive in time to stop him?
@JustInTimeWorldsАй бұрын
That's a great use for astrology!

Or you could go the other direction, and tie the event to the character, and give them a sense of past or loss, or looking forward. The mention of Halley's comet got me thinking. I was 4 and mom made sure we saw it. I'll get to share that with my boys, but they will only get to see it the once with me (as mom did). The cyclical nature of comets and such could tie into memories and flashback, maybe even a physical connection to that past or a nascent future

Yeah, it makes for a great personal moment in a character's history.

In my world, there is a celestial event known as the Phoenixrise Cycle and it helps provide fuel for the magic system

This is a timely video! In the new season of our live play RPG podcast (the Random Table Podcast) my friends and I are playing Dragonbane in a world where every 7 years the seven stars of the Faerie Cross align. This allows the Faerie World to cross into the mortal realm for an indeterminate amount of time to cause chaos and try to gain footholds. The civilizations of this world have been fighting off these invasions every 7 years, for centuries! Iron, salt, fire, etc. All of the folklore around faeries that my players and I love in fantasy are the basic common knowledge of people in our world because they needed it to survive. There’s a lot more to it too, but that might be spoilers for the podcast.

I use a modified lunar eclipse in a world I've built upon. Two moons in lunar resonance eclipsing each other. It's called the Blood Eclipse, both because the name itself was irresistable and because the inner eclipsing moon is visibly red. The outer moon is pale and moon-like in color. It occurs once a season because orbital resonance makes the physics of these things very clockwork-like. Depending on where you are in the world it might be considered a dangerous time where blood mages dance naked in rituals, or it's just the turning of the seasons, or it's a terrible time to conceive since the child will be a brat, any number of things. That's a great thing about a common celestial event, it can be all of these things at the same time since it happens 4 times a year.
