how does this not have MORE LIKES?! i have not seen very many, if not any feminized seed information on KZbin that mentions the silver method. also your explanation of the genetic factors, is so well done, clearly excecated and easy to understand! thank you very much for this information! 😍💚 i think the method you've shown here is FAR superior to what ive been doing for my whole life, both in its simplicity\easiness to follow, and the fact that it is reliable and measurable unlike the way i've been doin it!, thank you so much for bringing up up-to-date!! XD [warning: THE FOLLOWING SHOULD ONLY BE ATTEMPTED OR CONDUCTED BY A PROFESSIONALLY MINDED ADULT, IN A SAFE CLEAN ENVIROMENT, USING THE PROPER PPE AND PROCEDURES] i always used colloidal silver (sp?) which i was taught to make by an older grower, by making an anode and cathode out of pure silver solder wire, and attaching each end of it to a small voltage\ milliamp DC wall transformer (plugged into a GFI\fused power source for safety) then i would put those two thin rods into a glass or jar of distilled water, and leave it on overnight, and after a while you could actually see the silver forming strange tiny dots and orbs FLOATING in the water itself! like it somehow stayed in solution ionically or something? anyway this stuff was really dangerous to get on bare skin, so if anyone follows the above directions be very careful and use proper protective gear\gloves\mask\goggles\lab coat etc. a small ratio of this to regular watering\feeding times would quite quickly force my females to produce male flowers as well. (or males to produce female flowers also, making male-inized seeds) once done, the plant is cooked however, like i had to baby it along to completion (maybe i was using too concentrated of silver-water, oops!!) been a very long time since i used that method. i will definitely be giving this method a try next time i go for a batch of fem seeds!

I was able to produce feminized seeds by stressing a female plant starting around 2-3 weeks into flowering. I let her pot dry out a few times,did some pretty extreme temperature swings,and then lowered the light until I caused some minor light burn. She threw out some pollen sacks and I got some female seeds out of a couple healthy females I used the pollen on. So far my results have all been females,about 50-60 seeds in. Not as scientific,but it worked😅 Great video!

This video has given me direction!!!! Many Thanks. I havre a couple questions about precursors. Is there any danger of the final molar concentration being compromised if i use commercially available distilled water? I am concerned in the accuracy of my final molar conc. In addition, most of the readily available Silver Nitrate is 99% plus in purity. can that 1% have the potential to adversely effect my final molar concentration? Do the silver nitrate and the sodium thiosulphate bond or do they simply dissolve and remain suspended in solution?

This is great, and thank you! I love the info, but the typos on the chemical preparation page bother me a little bit, although if people follow it as written they'll get the right result and they'll never think about stoichiometry. Ignoring the hydration - since you got the pentahydrate part right - sodium thiosulfate is Na2S2O3, not NaS2O3. Silver thiosulfate is Ag2S2O3, not Ag(S2O3)2. Also, they mentioned how methylcyclopropene might work, and if people don't know, that's the gas that they use in the supermarket to keep bananas from ripening.
@MrBradshawbenjamin
@MrBradshawbenjamin 2 жыл бұрын
So I was kinda wrong here. The sodium thiosulfate was wrong, but the "silver thiosulfate" was close to right in the video although it's more complex than that. It's not Ag(S2O3)2, but the [Ag(S2O3)2]-3 anion, so the chemical species would be more like trisodium silver dithiosulfate, although the silver dithiosulate is just the predominant ion in solution, and other complexes are present as well as sodium nitrate.

I have a couple questions. In the video, you used rooted cuttings; in the case of using plants started from seed, when would you begin the STS treatment? Assuming that you have several other of the same feminized plants growing next to the plant that is treated, should the also be sprayed or would the pollen from the treated plant be enough to fertilize them, too? Would it be more effective to collect the pollen and use a Q-tip to pollinate the other plants, rather than treat them? You say that you did three applications 7 days apart, with the first on April 30, but you say you did the second application on May 14? Wouldn't that have been the third application, with the second being on May 7? You say that you switched to the 8 hour light cycle on April 30 and on May 14; if you began on April 30, how. could you begin again on May 14? Was there more than one set of test plants? I have seen some videos that recommend only spraying part of the plant, perhaps a few leaves or one branch. Any thoughts on this? Are there some varieties that do better than others with feminzation? Indica versus sativa? thanks
@DeBaccoUniversity
@DeBaccoUniversity 2 жыл бұрын
Answers to all your questions... 1. Plants were ≈6 inches high with two shoots when foliar sprays of STS were initiated 2. If other plants are female, no pollen would be produced if untreated. 3. Treatment is needed to generate the pollen. 4. Plants were sprayed to runoff (about 20 mL/plant) on three occasions, 7 d apart, beginning on 30 Apr. 2018 for the first replication and on 14 May 2018 for the second replication of this study. 5. On 30 Apr. and 14 May, plants began receiving short-day conditions of ≈8 h using a blackout curtain to initiate the flowering stage. 6. Full plant sprays in this study. 7. Should not be a difference.
@nuclearstarr
@nuclearstarr 2 жыл бұрын
@@DeBaccoUniversity Thank you. A plant grown from seed may be taller than 6 inches before it produces sex organs; do you treat plants grown from seed as soon as they display female sex characteristics, or do you allow them to grow buds before treating them? What i was trying to ask for #2 was if the amount of pollen produced by one treated female would act to fertilize surrounding females enough to produce a large quantity of seeds, or would it be better to use the pollen from the one treated female to hand pollenate the other females? I don't understand your answer for #5; if you begin the blackout curtain on April 30, how can you begin it again on May 14 unless you stop sometime in between?

Or is it that you catch the pollen that is produced, and hit other females plants with it. In turn making all those seeds female in future runs? Any help is appreciated. :)

Question- if 1 or 2% of the feminized XX seeds end up being male plants, are they really just hermaphrodites showing more male characteristics or more male flower. So if that's the case, these hermaphrodite plants would be producing XX pollin, and it may be beneficial to keep these herms. For future fertilization for XX seeds??? Mathematically these herms wouldn't ever have xy???
@DeBaccoUniversity
@DeBaccoUniversity 7 ай бұрын
In the best case scenario plants would still set seeds which will reduce cannabinoids and also "ruin" the visual aspect of the flower and increase labor to clear out the seeds. So, this is part of the reason why all pollen producing plants should be removed.
@michaelcarey9359
@michaelcarey9359 23 күн бұрын
I think the 1 or 2% "disclaimer" is because while these plants are being induced to make male flowers, there's also the possibility that the plant might make another male flower or a few, as is sometimes seen in the best of grows, which could throw things off a bit. But if your female plant might herm anyways, that means it has the genes of monoecious cannabis in it, so the resulting seeds from this method will still pass along those genetics. You need PURE females, free of intersex genes to do this perfect.

@@DeBaccoUniversity Sorry, Dr. DeBacco. If a plant grown from 'feminized' seed is treated with the silver solution, will the pollen that results from this treatment be 'normal' in comparison to the pollen created by treating a female born of 'regular' seed with the same silver solution? In essence, does a 'feminized' seed contain any genetic coding besides what is contained in a 'regular' seed? If different, are the differences detrimental to 'normal' expression? I suppose, that was my loooong-winded way of asking if it is safe to treat a female plant born of feminized seed, to reproduce its particular phenotype [if selfed] and/or pass on its own traits [if crossed]? Thank you for your patience.
