The reference layer step didn't worked as shown is it because of the brush??

It works depending on the color drop threshold. When you drop the color, before lifting the pencil you can drag the pencil to the right or left and it will adjust the color threshold. This makes the section that is impacted by the color either larger or smaller. You can see her sliding her pencil to the right a bit right after she drops the color. So if you drop the color and it’s filling your entire screen, you need to slide the threshold to the left. If it’s not filling enough, you slide it to the right. Hope that makes sense.
