Try using just 'background-clip' instead of '-webkit-background-clip'

Do you know why it renders good on Safari and Firefox, but on Chrome the whole font looks like it was inflated. A bit like those artificial bold modes. The letters get a rather thick outline that is coloured as well. The result is that gaps in letters fill up.

I fiddled a bit. If you add webkit-text-stroke: 1px transparant; to Firefox, it looks the almost the same as in Chrome. Also on Firefox you can use decimal values for stroke, and they all work as expected. So 0.1 renders different as 0.2. Once I add 0.1 to Chrome, the inflation becomes even worse, and looks similar to a value of 2 in Firefox. Conclusion: - Chrome does not like decimal stroke widths - Chrome applies a transparant stroke of 1-1.5 pixel already when no stroke is assigned. I can add a black stroke to compensate, but as it does not allow decimal values, the gaps become too big and the font too narrow.
